Job Summary:
The Director, Corporate Communications will help develop and manage strategic communication and public relations activities to promote CME Group with an emphasis on its global commodities products: energy, agriculture, and metals. This position will work with senior management, product marketing and the broader corporate marketing, communications and social media teams in North America, Europe and Asia to develop positioning strategies designed to enhance and protect the CME Group brand globally. Strong emphasis on writing and content creation.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Work closely with agricultural, energy and metals products teams to develop public relations strategies, including messaging, media relations pitches, social media, issues management, materials, budgets and resource allocation to promote the company’s commodities businesses including energy, agriculture, and metals.
• Actively manage reporting of analytics around both strategic, ongoing communication programs and one-off outreach efforts. May also include corporate marketing work in these areas, such as working with CME Group’s partnership with National 4-H Council, National Association of Farm Broadcasters or Purdue/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer.
• Write and distribute press releases, bios, fact sheets, backgrounders, messaging and talking points, media FAQs, presentations and bylines; identify storylines and trends; develop and extend media pitches; creative content development, including blogs, infographics, social media posts, and etc.
• Serve as company spokesperson; build and maintain strong relations with energy, metals and agricultural commodity beat reporters worldwide; create and contribute to message development initiatives; draft press statements/comments for internal reviews/approvals and dissemination to press.
• Secure media interviews for CME Group commodities subject matter experts, including preparing executive briefing materials and staffing interviews.
• Manage pool of commodities spokespeople, including media trainings for subject matter experts.
• Work across all communications channels to help CME Group shape the perceptions of customers, prospects, press/bloggers, industry associations and analysts within academic, business, commodities, and public policy communities domestically and internationally.
• Advise corporate executives and product team members on best way to communicate major corporate news (new product launches, product milestones and changes, geographic expansions, etc.), as well as on the use of strategic communications to navigate potential issues and crises in the press or with other external stakeholders.
Skills & Software Requirements:
• Microsoft Office Suite
• 7-10 years of corporate communications experience required; markets experience a plus.
• Bachelors Degree: Communications/Journalism/Marketing (Required)
