Description
Responsible for researching and compiling studies of international regions, countries, and industry groups. Recommends the holding or not of equity securities linked to these international regions, countries, or sectors. Working as part of a four person team, based in New York, London, and Bangalore, and reporting directly to HSBC’ Global Equity Strategist.
Development of proprietary quantitative, econometric and equity valuation models for international regional and country equity markets, as well as broader economic, FX, and credit market variables. Analysis of major regional and country events related to equity markets and broader macro-economic variables, with a particular focus on international markets, such as Europe, Asia, and Emerging Markets; Specialist thematic research, including on environmental, social, and governance issues, global equity small caps strategy, and geographic revenue analysis.
Development of top quality weekly and monthly research; client servicing with strategy recommendations and trade ideas
Principal Accountabilities:
• Develops sources of research information on assigned international regions, countries, and industries in the specific coverage area
• Prepares regular written research reports summarizing findings of analysis and recommending the holding or not of securities linked to these jurisdictions.
• Communicates recommendations on these regions, countries, and industries to institutional clients [either] in cooperation with sales force [or directly with clients].
• Responds to requests from sales force [and clients] for analysis/advice within assigned area.
• Makes presentations to clients, industry groups and internal departments. Develops and distributes written materials and reports.
• Ensures compliance monitoring is in place, including processes for management of operational risk, in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards.
• Provides management direction to foster effective selection, development and reward of subordinates while contributing to initiatives in support of the Company’s Diversity programs
Decision-Making Authority:
• Uses initiative and independent judgment to analyze, problem solve and proactively respond to internal staff and external client issues. Expected to make the necessary decisions to carry out own job responsibilities and meet primary goals and objectives. Evaluates and escalates complex issues and/or problems to manager.
Management of Risk
• Each employee must be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
• Each employee must ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
• Each employee must promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
Observation of Internal Controls
• Each employee must maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Any failures to comply with the above should be reflected in year-end performance assessments.
• Each employee must understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
Qualifications
• 3+ years’ Research analysis experience; minimum of 2 years’ experience with financial modeling and/or forecasting.
• Deep knowledge of the international economies and financial markets
• BA/BS degree in Finance, Economics or related field of research
• NASD Series 7 and Series 63 registered
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• CFA candidate a plus for non-senior level analysts
