Operations is one of the largest divisions in the firm and has diverse responsibilities, including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions. Throughout, the Operations department continually seeks ways to improve while actively supporting the development of new businesses, structures and markets.
Institutional Securities Group (ISG) Product Operations encompasses two functionally aligned organizations. The first, Trading & Client Operations, provides Operations functions in direct support of activity executed by Institutional Sales & Trading. The second, Clearing Operations, provides Operations functions in direct support for activity cleared by Morgan Stanley on behalf of our clients in Prime Brokerage, Listed Derivatives, and OTC Derivatives. The broad organization partners closely with Sales and Trading to develop and implement new products and services as well as drive efficiency and reduce risk in our processes. At all times we are focused on delivering quality service to clients both internal and external. ISG Product Operations partners closely with Shared Services and Banking Operations as well as Branch Operations and Operations Risk & Control to deliver a connected 'front to back' view of operations to ISG Sales and Trading.
The North America Head of Syndicate Finalization Operations is responsible for managing a five person team that is tasked with the ownership of calculating and booking Global Capital Market deal revenue and reconciling and maintaining all associated balance sheet accounts, including receivables and payables.
This position involves extensive interaction with controllers and the GCM and IBD Business Units. The Finalization team is responsible for managing the full spectrum of primary products including Equity, Fixed Income, Municipals, and ABS deal's entire economic configuration, checking and reviewing fee structures detailed within the deal documentation and ultimately booking revenue. Additionally, the team needs to maintain and manage the transaction related expenses and prorated to the syndicate members at final settlement or bill the Issuer for reimbursement.
Managing and supervising regional team:
• Manage all aspects of the people agenda for the team including goal setting, performance management, career pathing and expectation setting
Responsibilities:
• Oversight of the team's day to day process
• Supervisory role including sign offs, risk management, process review and audit checks.
• Proactively explore tactical and strategic solutions to identified and close control gaps
• Create a culture of continued process improvement, innovation and strategy
• Manage the ongoing portfolio of projects and system enhancements across the product lines
Team Responsibilities
• Keeping a record of all active deals
• Calculating and balancing Syndicate fees
• Calculating and booking firm revenue, payable, and receivable balances
• Communicating with Controllers and GCM on P&L
• Communicating with IBD bankers on deal expenses
• Updating and reconciling payable and receivable balances
• Process daily ad hoc expenses request initiated from Global Capital Market or
Investment Banking
• Billing out of pocket expenses on co-managed deals
• Identifying syndicate members and request out of pocket expense with deadline
• Compiling and consolidating all deal expenses and working with IBD for review and signoff
• Calculating, reconciling and remitting final settlement payments to the other Syndicate members
• Reconcile intra-company and facilitation account balances
Qualifications
• More than three year's of team management experience
• Strong organizational skills
• Knowledge of accounting principles, specifically regarding payables, receivables and expenses
• Strong sense of risks and potential risks in the area with regard to accounting and expense management
• Superior oral and written skills with strong networking and relationship building abilities
• Strong knowledge in MS Word/Excel/Access
• Bachelors Degree required
