POSITION SUMMARY:
TIAA’s Production Services team manages our core infrastructure assets. Our team is responsible for design, engineering, implementation and operations of the firm’s infrastructure footprint. Production Services operations provides the first line of support on any production related issues including our network and telecommunications, computing (middleware), and end-user support, as well as the firm’s 24x7 data center operations. The Production Services team collaborates closely with our business-aligned partners in technology and with key stakeholders across the enterprise.
As a Senior Director, Senior Lead Infrastructure Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of TIAA’s storage infrastructure including engineering and operational functions and managing teams of Technical Support Specialists and Analysts, Infrastructure Analysts, and Engineers. Your role will manage the day-to-day engineering functions, projects and operations in addition to collaborating and driving service, product and engineering initiatives across other infrastructure domains including: cloud, compute, middleware, network, and workplace. A large focus for this role will be to drive a software defined and automation strategy for the storage domain and other infrastructure domains.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Evaluate new technologies
• Manage hardware/software refresh programs – lifecycle management
• Oversee media handling and offsite rotation
• Supervise legal hold/data preservation requests
• Build disaster recovery and business continuity planning
• Manage storage provisioning (add, change, deletes)
• Oversee level 1, 2, and 3 support for storage
• Management of budget
• Capacity planning
• Annual forecasting for budget
• Review storage unit costing/total cost of ownership
• Storage vendor management
• Oversee annual maintenance renewals for storage hardware/software
• Review applicable standards that affect storage/mainframe
• Represent area to peers, customers for projects that cross multiple disciplines
• Ensure adherence to all standards, policies, etc. for team
• Participate in hardware/software procurement with sourcing team
• Oversee all storage projects – including all PM’s
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience
• Ten or more years of technical storage and data protection experience
• Seven or more years of managing technical teams, preferably in storage and data protection engineering and operations
• Deep technical experience, and technical team management, across additional infrastructure domains (cloud, compute, middleware, datacenter, software defined infrastructure) is strongly preferred
• Infrastructure architecture and software development experience is a plus
• Technical knowledge consisting of:
• SAN, NAS, object, mainframe, and tape storage
• Hardware including EMC VMAX, Brocade SAN switches, EMC Data Domain, EMC DLM, HDS VSP, Cisco MDS switches, NetApp filers
• Software including Tivoli Storage Manager, EMC Networker/DDBOOST/Avamar, NetApp OCI, NetApp OnTap operating systems
• Data Protection platforms, policies, practices, operations
• Object Storage
• Cloud (public & private) storage solution engineering, implementation, and operations
• Software Defined Storage solutions
• Data management and classification
Desired Experience
• Excellent presentation skills and ability to interface with senior executive management
• Ability to manage a global team consisting of domestic and offshore resources
• Ability to handle critical situations – know when to escalate and how to make decisions based on risk
