What is the opportunity?
The Enterprise Market Risk group provides independent and effective monitoring, control and communication on all material Market and Liquidity risks across RBC’s entire balance sheet, ensuring the implementation and compliance with risk management policies and procedures. Reporting to the Managing Director, Market Risk, you will act as a subject matter expert on Enterprise Market Risk business management as well as on Risk Data.
What will you do?
• Assist VP, Enterprise Market Risk in further developing dynamic and collaborative teams through staff development and process improvement / implementation.
• Lead strategic planning on organizational design and coordinate preparation of annual budget plans and human resourcing as required.
• Promote a strong culture of control awareness and risk mitigation. Responsible for policy and framework implementation, working closely with Policy Documentation and Risk teams and proposing updates when necessary. Ensure alignment with business strategies and regulatory best practice.
• Establish operational objectives, process workflow strategies and process improvements to support the broader mandate of Enterprise Market Risk
• Lead the review of emerging regulatory requirements and assess compliance gaps.
• Establish partnerships with all business lines to ensure understanding and consideration of regulatory, risk management and pricing implications of operations and strategies.
• Management of data attributes related to internal (business driven) and regulatory change initiatives. Responsible for data taxonomy and definitions relating to Market Risk and ensuring adequate coverage by Risk CDO.
• Actively participate in new strategic technology infrastructure initiatives. Primary responsibility for specification of qualitative data requirements (e.g. product hierarchies and reference data) and ensuring communication and awareness of quantitative risk specifications (owned by QRA) to appropriate system owners and stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with business partners, IT and Data Management and act as a subject matter expert on data requirements for Enterprise Market Risk ensuring that broader strategic enterprise initiatives
What do you need to succeed?
Must-Haves
• A degree in a quantitative discipline and/or relevant professional designations (e.g., CFA, FRM, CA, CMA)
• 10+ years’ experience primarily in risk and/or governance functions
• Comprehensive understanding of trading and retail banking products
• Comprehensive experience with new and emerging regulatory directives and related metrics
• Comprehensive understanding of debt issuance and treasury management functions
• Capable of managing executive level discussions
• Proactive, inquisitive self-starter with experience to define and implement own oversight framework and capable of challenging the status quo
Nice-to-Haves:
• Sound understanding of the role of second line of defence risk governance; experience in Risk Management is an asset
