Job Summary & Responsibilities
Duties:
Vice President/Associate-Intermediate with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in Jersey City, NJ. Act as legal entity controller for the Firm’s primary commodities market-making entity, with oversight and leadership over the monthly closing process, including monitoring intercompany relationships, general ledger vs. sub-ledger breaks, revenue and expense sharing arrangements, funding arrangements among affiliated entities, proper booking of accruals/provisions and classification of inventory and other balances. Demonstrate subject matter expertise in accounting for physical commodity and commodity derivative / funding transactions. Provide oversight and review of quarterly financial information for inclusion in the Firm’s consolidated SEC financials, with a focus on commodities, derivative and funding disclosures. Engage in quarterly assessment of the effectiveness of internal controls and escalation of control issues to senior management. Ensure accurate and complete reporting of regulatory information in reports to the regulatory authorities, including liaising with regulators as inquiries arise. Liaise extensively with other areas of the firm such as Product Controllers, Funding Controllers, Accounting Policy, Corporate Treasury, Legal, Tax, Regulatory, Market Risk and Credit Risk on various initiatives including new products requests, strategic changes to existing workflows and transfer pricing initiatives. Provide oversight and leadership for accurate and fair presentation of standalone entity financial information and disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Perform/review analyses on financial and non-financial attributes of consolidating legal entities for internal and external reporting purposes.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (US or foreign equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field. Will accept single degree or any combination of degrees/certifications and/or professional experience that are equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree. Seven (7) years of experience in the job offered or a related role. Must have experience with: US GAAP accounting for commodities and derivatives transactions; navigating a global investment bank with an ability to interact and build relationships across different teams; financial control infrastructure and financial control risk assessments related to investment banks; commodity markets and associated products traded in those markets; preparation and review of financial statements for commodities/derivatives trading entities including footnote disclosures for standalone entity reporting; Federal Reserve reporting for US subsidiaries of Bank Holding Companies (FR Y-11); and project management/organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments.
