Operations is one of the largest divisions in the firm and has diverse responsibilities, including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions. Throughout, the Operations department continually seeks ways to improve while actively supporting the development of new businesses, structures and markets.
Firmwide Operations includes Shared Services and Banking Operations (SSBO), Operations Risk and Control, Global Project Group and Metrics, Branch Operations and Divisional Management. Shared Service and Banking Operations delivers industry leading operational solutions by aligning the right functions, people, processes and tools into ten core disciplines offering tailored client service levels that are efficient, controlled and compliant with regulation. Our core disciplines include: Asset Servicing, Cash Management, Client Data Management, Global Banking Services, Loans Servicing, Network Management, Payments (Wireless and Disbursements), Reconciliations, Settlements and Tax Operations. Operations Risk and Control ensure adequate controls are in place, through providing an integrated risk and control framework to govern, assess, mitigate and manage financial and operational risk in Operations.
This role will be part of the North America ORC Customer Reserve & FOCUS Team, which regularly interacts with Senior Management of Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC, and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and senior managers across Operations, Technology, Finance and Compliance. The team is responsible for four (4) HIF functions. This role will primarily be responsible for performing daily tasks associated with the review, validation, and/or substantiation of operational data impacting the 15c3-3 Customer Reserve Formula. This role will also contribute to the preparation of monthly calculations, and reporting related 15c3-1 Net Capital (FOCUS), and other ad-hoc duties as assigned.
In addition to performing daily and monthly functions and reviewing the work of, and developing, other team members, the role would be expected to lead or contribute to working groups, and consistently review the team?s current procedures with the purpose to identify and drive possible process improvements. This role has the potential to have individuals reporting under it, and is expected to assist with team administrative responsibilities, such as task/training planning and scheduling.
Qualifications
1. An undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable professional experience.
2. 5+ years of related experience within Financial Services, Auditor, or Regulator (focus on operational compliance and/or regulatory processes)
3. Experience with operational risk disciplines; processes, risks and controls and familiarity with accounting systems/processes
4. Strong leadership, and project management skills and ability to manage many competing priorities.
5. Highly motivated individual with outstanding record of professional achievement
6. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
7. Fully versed in Microsoft Office suite, emphasis in Excel.
8. Candidate ideally has strong knowledge of various regulatory rules: such as SEC Rule 15c3-3, SEC Rule 15c3-1, etc.
Preferred
1. Prior experience in operational risk, modeling or information technology, or broad array of regulatory operations issues
2. Strong computer skills in Excel, Word and Powerpoint
