Department Profile
The Long-Only/Liquidity Valuation Committee (the “Valuation Committee”) is an important governing entity within IM that is responsible for overseeing the valuation of equity, fixed income, and derivative securities. The Committee carries out this function on behalf of IM as a registered investment advisor as well as, on behalf of the Boards of Directors / Trustees of the Morgan Stanley Funds, which is responsible for ensuring the daily net asset value of each fund is fair to purchasing, redeeming, and existing shareholders. The Valuation Committee interacts with portfolio managers from around the firm, who provide expertise and insight into particular securities and market conditions, but it is the Valuation Committee, acting independently that has the ultimate delegated authority and responsibility for assessing the fair valuation of securities.
Job Description
IM is looking for a Vice President to work with the Chairman of the Valuation Committee. The position requires a candidate that has the ability to work as a generalist solving daily pricing issues on a diverse set of public and private securities escalated from the IM Operations Team and writing memoranda and executive summaries related to fair valued securities for Valuation Committee meetings and quarterly Board of Directors meetings. The position also requires a candidate who can work as a specialist supporting the Chairman in creating and maintaining financial models and valuation analyses including discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable company, and tangible net asset valuation approaches on a group of private equity investments.
Qualifications
Required Skills / Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or related discipline required. Master’s degree or CFA a plus.
• 8+ years of experience in equity research, investment banking , private equity, or valuation services.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Strong analytical skills and experience in financial modeling.
• Proficiency in accounting and financial statement analysis.
• Experience using income, market, and asset valuation approaches.
• Excellent interpersonal skills
