Summary:
Reporting to the Head of the Issues Management Group (IMG), within the Central Risk & Controls Office (CRCO), the Vice President of Issues Management supports Directors in IMG for oversight and coordination with business unit and legal entity leaders risk and control teams, Americas Risk Management (“second line of defense” or “SLOD”) and Internal Audit to ensure successful remediation of risk and control issues across MUFG in the U.S. (“the enterprise”) as part of the Firm’s Issues Management Program. Additionally, the Vice President of Issues Management further supports the Directors in IMG in the oversight of execution of strategies and approaches for remediation of complex issues considering cross-function and cross-entity dependencies, ensures issues are being managed in compliance with the disciplines and standards established within the IMG, and provides clear and concise summaries of critical issues for use in presentations to executive leadership and the Board.
Major Responsibilities:
Monitoring & Oversight:The Vice President of Issue Management supports the Directors in the IMG in the following fashion:
# Ensure the Issue Owner has defined deliverables, dependencies, budget and resource needs and has identified all risks to successful remediation for all issues
# Coordinate execution of the end-to-end issue management process across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Lines of Defense (LoD) and the Regulatory Affairs Office (RAO) by ensuring designated leads are assigned to each issue requiring engagement for these groups and action plans to remediate issues are developed considering each party’s role and responsibility
# Partner with front line and support units (Business Units or BUs) and legal entity leaders and risk and control teams during issue remediation to ensure:
# Effective, efficient, and transparent remediation of issues
# All responsible parties are aware of and adhere to issue management standards, disciplines, and requirements related to the Issue Management Program
# Adherence by BUs (Front line and Support Units) with issues management minimum standards
# Perform reviews and verification of issues management documentation which varies based on the impact rating of the issue, to validate compliance with the Issues Management Program
# Validate / challenge issue remediation status report ratings (e.g.: Red, Amber, Green or “RAG”) against defined criteria and ensure “Go-to-Green” plans are rigorously defined for all issues with a non-green RAG status
# Ensure the systems of record required to generate transparent and accurate reporting on the status of all issues are updated on the scheduled frequency and are complete and accurate
# Ensure risks and issues associated with the remediation of issues are escalated immediately to the appropriate management level, oversight group, or committee
# Work with the Director of Issues Management Reporting, providing executive level summaries of critical and/or complex issues, for inclusion in presentations to senior management or the Board. Present at or participate in regularly and ad-hoc scheduled management routines/meetings related to the remediation of issues including with senior management and oversight committees as required
Phase Gates and Review & Challenge:
# Facilitate Review and Challenge (R&C) by 2nd and 3rd LoD and other SMEs, as required by the Issues Management Program
# Ensure action plans are tracking to commitments throughout the issues management lifecycle, from issue identification through closure
# Ensure operational effectiveness and sustainability in a business as usual (“BAU”) environment of changes implemented to remediate the issue can be demonstrated through:
# Adequate remediation plans, developed during planning, with all actions required to design and develop, and demonstrate effective and sustainable solutions (i.e. new or changes to people, processes, systems)
# Appropriate involvement by BU leaders and SMEs to provide input and or approve plans, deliverables and outcomes
# Effective review and challenge, validation and testing by 1st, 2nd and 3rd LoD where required, prior to recommended closure of the issue
Acceptance by BU leaders of level of residual risk/risk reduction in the BAU environment
Qualifications
• A BA/BS degree from a 4-year college
• 6+ years of experience in Finance as a function leader, senior project or program manager, or comparable experience
• Banking industry experience and knowledge of banking organization, operations and technology
• Proven experience leading and managing programs and/or large projects from start to finish, using best practice techniques and tools with specific experience in any or all of the following:
◦ Technology systems implementations or conversions
◦ Process re-design and/or development of governance frameworks, committees, policies etc.
◦ Fast turnaround, tight timelines, and/or crisis management environments
• Knowledge of risk management and internal controls frameworks
• Experience in remediating regulatory issues preferred, but not required
• Strong proficiency in MS Office including Project and Power Point is essential
• Experience and working knowledge of Open Pages is preferred, but not required
• MBA, CPA, and/or PMP certification preferred but not required
• Big 4 or top tier management consulting experience preferred but not required

• Ability to lead meetings, facilitate resolution of differing views, with experience in communicating difficult / sensitive information effectively and tactfully
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to present to large groups and to executive management.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively (both written and oral) to all staff levels
