This role is responsible for driving newness and innovation by working with the Design and Production teams for the sourcing and development of knits fabrics that are aesthetically and cost appropriate for the AEO brand. It requires a comprehensive knowledge of fiber, yarn and knit fabric processing and being able to take the aesthetic direction from Design and work with either the existing mill base or find new potential mills that can effective execute the desired direction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the Knit Fabric R&D process to translate the brand aesthetic into clear, executable direction for vendors/ suppliers
• Work cross-functionally with the Designers, Production, Merchandising and Product Development teams in meeting aesthetic, timing, cost and testing parameters related to knit fabrics
• Collaborate with Design to drive the creative fabric R&D process in order to build viable on-trend seasonal fabric assortments
• Attend fabric shows and/or shop competitive/ aspirational brands as appropriate to gain perspective on new innovation and trend as it applies to the AEO brand
• Lead raw material issue resolution and troubleshooting of fabric related issues
• Fortify vendor relationships and procurement of new resources
• Support product integrity by facilitating the testing of all fabrics prior to bulk order and reviewing test failures
• Build an archive of continuity fabrics that have been approved and used in previous seasons
• Manage receipt of new fabrics and file accordingly
• Maintain a library of fabrics that are representative of raw materials that could be used in bulk production that are brand appropriate.
• Identify opportunities for competitive sourcing of knit products
• Manage development metrics reporting
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in textile engineering or comparable degree/ education
• 6+ years’ experience working in Fabric development, textiles or related field
• Keen eye for fabric trends and a passion for fabric technology
• Technical knowledge of yarns, fabrics, dyeing, printing, and finishing processes as it relates to knit fabrics
• Proficient in PLM, Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel preferred
• Prior managerial/supervisory experience
• Ability to travel throughout U.S. and internationally as needed
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
• Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
