Job Description
Responsible for design and development of legwear programs in the Food, Drug, Mass and Club channels.
Brands can encompass No Nonsense, Hue, and Utopia for Club channel; and various private lab el programs for mass and mid-tier.
Successful designs and timely prototype development must align with seasonal strategies, support brands’ DNA and meet timeline and profit goals.
Use of Adobe Illustrator and Photo Shop (CS6) as it relates to textile and apparel design (non- package designers). There is a lot of CAD (creator suit version)
Participate in key customer meetings to present trend and new product concepts.
Responsible for design development of the above legwear lines, ensuring that all collections:
• Deliver fresh new ideas consistent with brand DNA
• Execute on time, meeting all key design milestones in new product commercialization process
• Align to merchandising plan
• Meet profit goals
• Support brand growth, volume and consumer target goals
Key design contributions to new Product Strategy are: trend presentation, color inspiration and new ideas.
Collaborate with Design Director to develop seasonal design vision and concept for each collection integrating New Product Strategy. Present to Vice President of Sales, Vice President of Design and Merchandising, and Vice President of Marketing for approval.
Achieve budgeted annual net sales and EBIT goals.
Research fashion trends as a context for design vision (shopping, shows, trend services, magazines, etc.).
Review POS results and incorporate relevant learning information into the collections.
Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to consider resources and parameters for developing new products. (EX: Fabric and yarn options, capacity, etc.)
Develop clear, comprehensive soft board presentations that reflect merchandising plan to be used as a key presentation tool.
Develop a strong collaboration with merchandising, sourcing and technical design teams to implement product commercialization process. Interface with merchandising as key partner in reviewing prototypes, managing to SKU plan, developing product that achieves brand DNA as well as retail assortment goals and profit goals.
Collaborate closely with technical design to achieve good fit and quality while meeting both aesthetic and construction goals.
Develop and review prototypes and make necessary adjustments to fine-tune products until initial design concepts are executed.
Integrate merchandising teammates in this process so that both design and merchandising are linked throughout process of product development and adoption.
Communicate effectively with external vendors regarding development needs, tech pack information and prototype development in a thorough and respectful manner.
Maintain all tech pack information and ensure that PLM is the primary and accurate source for all prototype development and color way data and adhere to all deadlines.
Manage design space for organized, efficient quality of work environment.
Set up and maintain clear and accurate working boards for prototype development, enabling easy access and viewing for Design teammates and Merchandisers.
Establish product archives for prototypes, retail and vendor samples.
Maintain digital folders containing CAD artwork that is accessible for others Designers to reference.
Required Skills:
Fully knowledgeable in Photoshop & illustrator
Fashion sense and ability to create original designs via cad
Strong color sense
Organized & able to meet deadlines
Hosiery, sweater or textile experience
3+ years’ experience
Work with legwear director in creating original designs and cad artwork
Set up and maintain presentation and trend boards
Design & spec entry into the plm system
Communicate with vendors and handle all prototype development responsibilities as related to design
