Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, Tax, the Director of Tax will be responsible for corporate income tax compliance and provision. The role will be responsible for indirect tax, property tax, and unclaimed property. The responsibilities will include managing domestic tax controversies, providing tax leadership in acquisitions and divestitures, and evaluating HBI’s global tax positions and providing advice on tax planning strategies.
Responsibilities
• Global income tax provision processes;
• Domestic income tax, indirect tax, property tax, unclaimed property compliance, controversy and planning;
• Interact on a regular basis with senior finance leaders to ensure that they are fully informed and adding value in areas of compliance, tax financial reporting, and operational/development support;
• Participate in acquisitions and disposition projects to determine potential federal and international tax liabilities, exposures, and structures for contemplated transactions;
• Assist in the analysis of key tax effects of current or proposed transactions;
• Work closely with the financial team and business unit management, assisting to develop and implement targeted tax planning strategies within their respective business units;
• Lead meetings with finance management and other business leaders to address technical tax topics and finance projects;
• Manage interface with outside tax advisors, including attorneys, accounting firms, and other tax consultants, to ensure the most efficient tax position for HBI;
• Work on multiple financial projects which are time sensitive, so ability to schedule activities and work under pressure is required;
• Ensure HBI’s compliance with tax laws and regulations, maintaining current knowledge of tax law changes;
• Research, analyze, interpret and apply tax laws and principles;
• Develop view on judgmental tax related areas as they pertain to financial accounting recognition and the impacts on quarterly and annual GAAP statements;
• Review and develop positions in conjunction with financial accounting, and assist with the review of all quarter and year-end tax scheduling to support financial reporting;
• Manage team of tax professionals including Senior Managers, Manager, and Analysts
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Required:
Candidates for the position should possess significant financial, tax planning, tax compliance, treasury and risk management experience, ideally within a large global company, public accounting firm or sophisticated corporate environment. Additionally, the successful candidate must have demonstrated a strong executive presence and outstanding management and technical skills, including considerable practice in international matters. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Able to articulate complex technical tax concepts to colleagues and management. Good conceptual, critical thinking, analytical, quantitative skills and the ability to problem solve. Demonstrated ability to manage internal and external teams to achieve company goals.
A bachelor's degree in accounting required; a CPA is highly preferred; advanced tax degree, MBA or JD preferred.
