Description
Custom Ink, the leader in custom apparel for groups and communities, is all about bringing people together. That's what inspires our innovative online platform, world-class customer support, and award-winning work environment. With 1,500 team members or “Inkers” and $350M in revenue, we are passionate about the success and well-being of our team and have earned frequent recognition as a top workplace from such organizations as Fortune Magazine. Our customers are counting on us to come through for them, and that’s important to all Inkers - no matter what role they’re in.
How you’ll make a difference:
We seek a positive, results-oriented, and team-building leader to ensure that our production team achieves exceptional accuracy, timeliness, and execution of printed garments.
Our customers are counting on us to come through for them, and that's important to all Inkers - no matter what role they're in. Approaching our work with this mindset along with our Core Values defines how we treat team members, how team members treat each other, and how we treat our customers and community. In this role, the APM will be the motivator of this endeavor and set the example for the team. Additionally, you must understand what makes for good operations and have the proactive mindset and leadership abilities to execute. You will oversee a key component of the business and will report to the General Manager of In-House Production in Charlottesville.
Candidate must be able to work our first shift (6:00AM- 2:00PM).
What you’ll do:
As an Associate Production Manager, you will be responsible for leading a shift of Production Associates to be as effective as possible. This includes organizing schedules, monitoring workflow, tracking results, implementing guidelines, and more. On a daily basis, you will be charged with being a hands-on leader who sets the standards for a focused, positive and productive team of Inkers. You will be equally responsible for ensuring production operations are running safely and smoothly while effectively problem solving in real-time to optimize workflow and efficiencies. Additionally, you will work closely with the other APMs and leads to ensure efficient daily transfer of work and communication of issues and resolutions as the leadership team works towards the same goals.
Team members will rely on the APM for questions, consultation, and resources needed to succeed, helping them to provide our customers with a “WOW!” experience. Having the patience and time management skills to juggle multiple tasks at once is the key to being successful in this role. Team building is critical and will include interviewing new team members, monitoring training and performance, giving constructive on-going feedback and guidance to your immediate team - on the floor and in 1-1 meetings - and managing the group to Custom Ink’s expectations. You will need to be honest, positive and approachable and understand that you’re directly responsible for each team member’s job satisfaction. Additional responsibilities include performance reviews, monthly individual team member meetings, managing performance-based compensation, tracking and evaluating performance data and effective group communication - all while demonstrating our Core Values.
Furthermore, production is tied to many aspects of our growing business and requires constant connection to our larger in-house production goals and regular collaboration with other parts of the company. As APM, it will be critical to own and continuously work towards solid and consistent processes, minimization of costs, reduction of waste, efficiency, cleanliness, and achieving full capacity. Additionally, on a daily basis, the APM will need to communicate with other Custom Ink teams in all locations to achieve order-by-order success and foster cooperation among all the teams.
How you’ll be measured:
This role is critical to the continuing success of our growing In-House Production operations. Accordingly, key measures of success for the position will be:
• Customer satisfaction
• Team’s individual and overall job satisfaction
• Execution of facility and company-wide goals
• Staffing, workflow and schedule smoothness and optimization
• Production Associate performance metrics:
• Productivity – Maintain targets for timely completion of orders
• Quality – Maintain targets for technical execution and quality of work
We have established targets and quantitative metrics for the above that are likely to evolve with our processes over time.
What we’re looking for:
To be effective as a manager, you need to be an organized, deliberate, and patient person, who understands people’s needs and has the knowledge, judgment and desire to help solve their problems. You must also be able to motivate your team by creating a positive and productive atmosphere and leading by example. This role involves extensive hands-on work with operational processes while successfully leading a group of team members who are integral to our order-by-order success.
Accordingly, the ideal candidate will be strong in the following areas:
• Upbeat, consistent, customer-focused, and results-driven attitude
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve results
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a team of peers
• Track record of successfully coordinating schedules, workflow and problem solving
• Personal drive to innovate and not be satisfied with status quo
• Experience in tracking and applying operational and performance data
• Strong computer skills – experience with Excel, Illustrator and Photoshop a plus
• Prior experience with screen printing is preferred.
Finally, as with any leadership role at Custom Ink, you must of course exemplify our company values - practicing the Golden Rule, taking Ownership, and driving and embracing Innovation.
Please include a letter of interest with your application materials.
