ModCloth designs and sells its own signature line of apparel in a full range of sizes, and curates a unique assortment of fashion and home decor from more than one hundred independent designers.
We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate Sr. Manager, Experience Design who wants to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to launch best-in-class digital shopping experiences and efficient interfaces for internal tools and systems. The ideal candidate will have incredible empathy for the end-user, high design standards and superior UXD/UXR skills. As the Sr. Manager of Experience Design, you will be comfortable with ambiguity, passionate about solving customer problems, self-directed, and have experience inspiring and empowering teams to drive simplicity and beauty across complex interactions. Reporting to the VP of Technology Product and Customer Care, this role will build, manage and coach a team that contributes to creating and aligning user experience across a variety of platforms and devices. The position will oversee all experience design functions from discovery and analysis, user research, information architecture, and interaction and product design. You will primarily work with marketing and site merchandising teams, as well as product management and engineering managers, to define and prioritize design changes that reflect business requirements, support user needs, and are technically feasible.
What you'll do...
• Advocacy: Evangelizes the importance of experience design across the company and acts as spokesperson and representative for UX involvement across all customer touch points. Serves as a subject matter expert and thought leader on user experience design
• User Research and Testing: you have a strong understanding of user research methodologies and tools to deliver actionable qualitative and quantitative data to drive intelligent and effective design decisions and products
• Innovate: You facilitate ideation sessions with stakeholders from across the organization to generate ideas, build a sense of shared ownership and challenge people to think outside-the-box. You strive to seek new opportunities and solutions to customer problems because building an emotional connection with ModCloth gives you a sense of achievement. You understand the technical limitations and liberties behind your designs and is able to effectively communicate them.
• Strategy:Leads the user experience design vision for ModCloth’s shopping experience across devices and channels, and internal business tools that support long term business goals and user needs (as measured by KPI’s and user success metrics).
• Collaborate: you enjoy working with cross-functional teams to understand business strategy and consulting on optimal user experiences and modern product design to achieve them.
• Partners with product management and engineering to identify customer experience opportunities for annual and quarterly roadmaps
• Works with marketing creative and brand marketing to ensure experience design is aligned with overall brand and creative direction
• Design: You have a highly refined aesthetic sense and favor clean, beautiful work that balances the needs of the user while optimizing for key business metrics like conversion and retention. You favor usability, simplicity, and consistency and can guide your team to design to your vision and to specific branding needs.
• Lead: Develop the skills of team members to support business needs and individual career aspirations through coaching and guidance. Responsible for performance and timely delivery of work of team members (full-time and contractors). Manages consultants and vendor relationships as needed.

• 6+ years of experience in user research and product design with a strong portfolio
• Experience building and managing a team of UX designers and researchers
• Experience with consumer-facing product design in the ecommerce or retail industry
• Experience in iterative software delivery methodologies – Agile, SCRUM, etc.
• Effective communicator (verbal & written) across different organizational levels
• Ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines with an appropriate sense of urgency
• Highly organized in dealing with multiple tasks with fanatical attention to detail
• Knowledge of ADA standards for UI
• Excellent analytical skills and an ability to think steps ahead
• A team player with the ability to solicit constructive feedback and criticism for designs
• Have a portfolio with specific examples that demonstrate your thinking, research and/or design processes to produce great user experiences that drives business
• Experience building rich, interactive prototypes or web applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Invision and other prototyping and visualization software
• BA/BS degree in Design, HCI, CS, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
