Dickies - Senior Designer, Men's (Outerwear & Tops)
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sr. Design Director – Men’s Dickies, drive the design and development of Dickies Men’s Outerwear and Tops to create a directional and relevant collections from concept to market for all channels of distribution. Apply technical and creative expertise to design for both Men’s and Young Men’s servicing the Dickies North America markets – UA, CA, MX - core work and lifestyle product categories. Develop an understanding of the Dickies culture and Purpose through immersion in our workers’ values, in our products, in consumer retail habits and in market/macro-trends. Partner with Global teams to influence Global Innovation and Concept Development. Work closely with Merchant team to understand customer needs and to drive sales.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Use seasonal concepts as inspiration to identify and develop key colors, fabrics, silhouettes and trims for incorporate into the complete product appropriate for the season and Dickies Men’s Outerwear and Tops categories.
• Responsible for inspiring creativity and fostering new concepts that expand on brand defining products and technologies.
• Deep understanding of the Outdoor/Active markets to inform technical performance requirements and end-user needs.
• Manage multiple development tracks / off-calendar development including Account Exclusives, Speed to Market, Special and Make Ups for key customers and/or opportunities.
• Build “Segmented” assortments in support of customer/channel strategies
• Identify seasonal trends, assortment opportunities and merchandising strategies for areas of responsibility.
• Work closely with Sr. Director of Innovation to develop market leading and disruptive technologies delivering superior features and benefits to core consumers.
• Responsible for developing and managing art works, fabric and trim details, construction and technical process, to include: drawings, measurements, and detailed design specifications, and PLM system.
• Conduct fit sessions and manage follow through on all design driven fit updates.
• Participate in concept presentation and line building recaps, in addition to line presentation.
• Collaborate, communicate and influence Dickies Global Team on Men’s Seasonal Creative Vision as well as cross-region opportunities.
• Research competitive markets and presents results and ideas to Design team.
• Travel to develop and increase understanding of Dickies customers as well as inspiration and research for consumer, design, fabric, color, and trend.
• Build collaborative relationships with internal and external associates and co-workers including Product Management, Merchandising, Fabric, Trim and sourcing teams, Technical Design, Marketing and Sales Teams.
• Communicate effectively across the company. Actively share design vision and knowledge, influence and create next vision and act as lead resource to develop concepts and products.
• Contribute to positive team environment by exhibiting objectivity and openness to others' views; provide and welcome feedback; prioritize success of team above own interests; Build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives;
QUALIFICATIONS
• 8+ years apparel design experience with emphasis on Men’s Outerwear and Tops businesses
• Bachelor’s Degree in Design or Fine Arts.
• Multi-Channel and Multi Branded experience is required.
• Collaborative and results-oriented leader
• Strong Reasoning Ability, Self-starter, can work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong business partner who can lead and inspire through influence, vision and personal credibility.
• Balance team and individual responsibilities;
• Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, WEB PDM and preferred 3D Browzwear.
• Experience in creation of design packages and execution of product designs.
• Strong track record for driving commercial results
• Experience in research and analysis and design cycles.
• Experience in direct managing of others.
• Strong knowledge of technical development and commercialization processes.
• Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses.
• Strong design and visual merchandising skills.
• Strong fashion, creative background and trend awareness.
• Strong Presentation skills and ability to work well within a team-based situation.
