Description
Primary purpose of position is to:
a. Lead a team of scientists on the creation, design and implementation of key makeup charter innovation programs;
b. Act as critical liaison between makeup charter team and other corporate and branded R&D functions to facilitate timely completion of proof of principal / reduction to practice milestones within designated timelines
c. Identify new opportunities for "PreCharter" breakthrough makeup innovation projects using the AT Triage and Engine tools
1. Decision Making
a. Prioritize makeup charter programs against consumer benefit, unmet needs, potential market impact and technical chance of success.
b. Coordinate internal and external R&D partnerships against critical time, budget and resource constraints
2. Problem Solving
Apply creative brainstorming and out-of-the-box thinking to propose new ways to tackle long-standing technical hurdles in color cosmetics
3. Independence of Action and Accountability
Act as role model for group in taking ownership on delivering prototypes, in vitro evaluation and clinical studies, as well as delivering on all project milestones and deliverables, within time/budget/resource guidelines
4. Budget Responsibility
Work with other R&D support functions (clinical, packaging, legal etc.) to design and implement viable research, development and scaleup programs suitable for key brand and/or franchise adoption within budget constraints
5. Leadership
a. Identify and communicate short and long-term strategic objectives of overall makeup charter program to upper R&D management as needed
b. Identify and develop future areas of technical management capability
c. Build organizational talent and capability through coaching and mentoring of team
Qualifications
-BS in Chemistry or equivalent
-10-20% Travel Time
– Advanced degree in chemical or biological sciences strongly preferred
– Ability to lead a multidisciplinary, matrix-based research team in support of a technical program that drives breakthrough makeup and skin care innovation opportunities
– At least 10 years experience in formulating a variety of makeup and skin care products within critical timelines and resources
– Experience in applying rigorous project management tools to time- and resource-sensitive research programs
– Strong written and oral communication skills
