POPSUGAR is looking for a hard-working, fast-moving, beauty-obsessed Senior Editor to run the day-to-day operations of Makeup.com and Skincare.com. In this role, you will oversee the editorial strategy for the two sites, manage a team of editors, oversee content creation, social media marketing, and analytical reporting, and serve as our primary contact with our clients. Our ideal candidate is a beauty junkie with a smart, fun voice and a healthy habit of spotting beauty trends before they go mainstream. If you’ve got a passion for beauty, a knack for writing shareable headlines, and a history of growing a site’s audience, we want to talk to you! Please note that this is a long-term temporary position.
In this role, you will:
• Serve as main point of contact for Makeup.com and Skincare.com clients, attending and leading weekly status meetings, monthly check-ins, and quarterly planning sessions
• Run the site, build the editorial calendar, and map out each day's schedule (or delegate to team as needed)
• Produce at least 1-2 pieces of standout original beauty content each day
• Assign and edit content written by editors, and provide ongoing feedback
• Offer guidance to team and exercise sound judgment on trends and topics that should be covered on the site
• Monitor the site and posts and edit content on weekends and at night, as needed
• Take feedback from Senior Editorial Director to improve coverage and writing/editing skills
• Manage reposting of seasonal, timely, and evergreen posts (or delegates to team)
• Pulls reports of top-performing seasonal / timely posts and ensures they are updated
• Manages reposting
• Develop and maintain relationships with photo agencies, content sources, PR reps, and other industry contacts
• Attend events, conduct interviews, take photos, and secure original content for site
• Represent Makeup.com and Skincare.com on camera as needed
• Manage associate editors and assistant editors
• Attend regular meetings with client and brands
• Serve as an expert in Google Analytics and other traffic tools and use them to inform content decisions and help exceed traffic goals
• Oversee monthly and weekly reporting on site traffic
• Produce traffic deep dives and special projects as needed
• Works with Senior Editorial Director to lay out comprehensive site strategies for big themes
• Use tools like BrightEdge, RivaliQ, Buzzsumo, Chartbeat, and Google Webmaster tools to identify new story ideas and potential stories to repost
• Work closely with Social Editor to ensure content is being effectively marketed on social
• Manage paid media budget with the Growth Editor, liaising with POPSUGAR performance marketing team, attending monthly meetings, and providing updates in client meetings
In order to thrive in this role, you must have:
• 7+ years of experience in writing/editing/blogging or related field
• Experience with setting content strategy and leading a team
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
• Ability to turn around clean, witty, accurate copy on tight deadlines
• Familiarity with social media
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
• Ability to stay ahead of trends and adapt to a constantly changing digital landscape
• Is proficient with HTML, Photoshop, CMS, tagging guide, and style guide
