Description
Merchandise presentation on the Eastern Mountain Sports website is a primary driver of both e-commerce and retail business results. The Web Merchandiser owns the online presentation of their assigned categories, from where the product resides in the webstore to influencing when and how it is featured in marketing campaigns. This role marries customer insights with merchandising and content strategies to satisfy customer intent while maximizing business results. The Web Merchandiser manages a regular influx of new products, and delivers enhancements to categorization, faceting, sorting and ranking that drive product conversion.
The person in this role has a daily impact on what customers see, how they decide whether to click through to purchase, and how much time / money they spend on the site. Though this position is collaborative in nature, the online merchandiser is directly responsible for funneling customers to the best product for their needs.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities:
• Create and maintain an assortment architecture and visual presentation that maximize selling opportunities.
• Manage product faceting and attributes to optimize customer experience.
• Maintain acute awareness of the business context, including customer intent, competitive pressures, and internal variables (i.e. assortment strategies, branding objectives, stock position, pricing, deliveries, site performance, etc.).
• Manage independent communication with Buyers, Content and Marketing partners to ensure assortments, promotional activities, and customer communications lead to desired business results.
• Own the business results for given categories, partnering with Buyers to understand the assortment strategy, and advocating appropriately for marketing real estate, from home page to landing pages, internal banner ads and emails.
• Use analytics suite (Adobe Site Catalyst/Omniture and Google) to track site experience, product performance, and campaign effectiveness, guiding ongoing improvements to merchandise presentation and performance.
• Stay current on trends among direct competitors and best-in-class e-commerce sites.
• Continually seek out opportunities to improve processes and methods to work smarter and deliver results.
Job Requirements Preferred:
Previous Work Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience with online retail merchandising and analytics. Experience with A/B testing and site optimization projects a plus.
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Computer Skills: Adept with Microsoft Office functionality, savvy with analytical reporting tools (i.e. Omniture), understanding of e-commerce software applications.
Abilities: Passion for understanding and driving customer interaction, online merchandising, and business results. Attention to detail and an affinity for solving puzzles. Desire and ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels. Critical thinking skills supported by an understanding of e-commerce data analytics and their applications. Exhibit a balance between independence and organizational savvy that can get things done in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. Utilize sound project management methodologies. Possess an intuitive ability to connect to the target consumer.
