The function of this position is to direct the design and production of print and packaging materials. Inspire creative thinking within the Art Department; direct and produce cross-media creative; develop and implement short and long-term visual / product strategies (including product designs) that enhance the brand and further growth.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT:
• Inspire, mentor, lead and manage the Art Department team, including hiring and training, with a focus on the future vision of the department
• In partnership with Senior AD and Chief CD, direct all art activities with respect to all design within the department in order to effectively maintain the brand identity within the global brand vision, including but not limited to, packaging design, catalog, press releases and all Art Dept. graphic requests
• Manage, schedule and assign print and packaging art projects to the design team
• Prioritize, track, and maintain records of the elements, costs (when appropriate) and time-lines of multiple projects within project and department budget
• Prepare and review layouts, suggest improvements as needed and present samples to supervisor for selection and approval
• Oversee all prepress work for printer, responding to printer’s requirements
• Coordinate the conceptualization, design and production of mechanicals for PR, Marketing and non-packaging material
• Oversee and direct illustrators, photographers, and other creative subcontractors as required for specific projects
• Select, supervise, and obtain cost estimates from outside vendors, i.e. photographers, illustrators, paper suppliers, printers, etc., as needed
• Oversee maintenance image resource files
• Double-check quality of final product before release
DESIGN & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT:
• Partner with CCD, SAD, designers, production/OPS, marketing/PR, visual and wholesale to develop and implement branded visual strategies for package design\
• Assist SAD and CCD in design process from concept to execution; including layouts for product design, and any other requested marketing materials, making changes as necessary
• Participate in the creative process to determine style, technique, and medium best suited to produce desired results, conforming with reproduction requirements, or following specific instructions concerning these variables.

Qualifications:
• 5-10 years experience in comprehensive portfolio demonstrating experience in traditional & digital design and technology within the realm of print / advertising / packaging / publishing / direct marketing / photo art direction / web architecture & content, all aspects of production, and project/budget management
• Proven ability to manage and develop concepts and creative solutions that are on target with the brand marketing strategy
• Proven ability to support and translate brand vision as it relates to branded packaging, design and product marketing/positioning
• Comprehensive knowledge of Macintosh systems and fluency in Mac design software: InDesign, Quark Xpress, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Distiller, FTP, Go Live, as well as email software
• Fluency in digital file preparation / production specs and a thorough understanding of traditional and modern print technology
• Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions and present recommendations with clarity and conviction
• A sense of urgency, high energy and a roll-up-your sleeves attitude
• Excellent organizational, presentation and communications skills both verbal and written
• Articulate thinker with a sense of humor and an ability to take creative direction, react quickly, and interact productively during brainstorming meetings
