Overview
Foot Locker, Inc. is seeking an innovative leader who has a proven track record of architecting and delivering enterprise level platform components to support product development from multiple teams and lines of business. This role is expected to drive innovation through collaboration across our data science teams and business to help push Foot Locker, inc. to the next level. The team is embarking on a journey of building a brand new data lake platform built using cloud native concepts and the latest tech stacks. Some ideal technologies for this individual would be Spark, Scala/Python, Kafka, and Azure (AWS is good as well).
Responsibilities
• Lead a team of 6 to 8 Data Engineers that are focused on building data products utilizing our Data Platform
• Create a culture of over delivering, calculated risk-taking, rapid delivery, and progress over perfection
• Help manage resource contention by prioritizing projects in collaboration with our Data Science and Product organization
• Make proper architecture choices to reduce creating technical debt while also meeting business time-lines / deliverables
• Provide guidance around proper data governance rules while defining requirements working with our Principal Data Architect
• If needed, be a player-coach and jump in to help the team troubleshoot issues, take on some work to help the team, etc.
• Create self-organizing teams that can work with minimal supervision working within the Agile / Scrum project methodology
• Support our Data Scientists by helping enhance their modeling jobs to be more scalable when modeling across the entire data set
• Participate in a collaborative, peer review based environment fostering new ideas via cross team guilds / specialty groups
• Maintain comprehensive documentation around our processes / decision making
Qualifications
Required Skills:
• Bachelors Degree in Computer science or related field
• 6+ or more years of related information technology experience
• 4+ years of strong experience leading teams working in the Big Data technology space
• Spark, Hive, Hadoop, Parquet, HDFS, Python, Scala, Data Lake, NoSQL
• 2+ years of experience leading a Platform organization and having multiple stakeholders relying on your Platform being available 24/7 in order for them to succeed.
• Experience with enabling Data Science and Self Service product development with clean, reliable data sets
• Experience using CI / CD tools and project build automation
• Git, Jenkins, Maven, PyPi, etc
• Demonstrated experience with agile scrum methodology
• Strong desire to learn new technologies and keep up with the latest technologies in the big data space
• Must possess well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Characteristics:
• Previous experience at a fortune 500 company
• Public cloud experience, preferably Azure or AWS
• Demonstrated experience being a Spark developer, would be able to dive in and code / help troubleshoot issues
