SET THE COURSE
The Editor will serve as the Copy team’s lead writer, lead the definition of Tommy Bahama’s brand voice & messaging standards, devise story ideas in partnership with marketing strategists and omni channel merchants, lead product knowledge within marketing, and lead/inspire the brand’s copy team. The Editor is an ambassador for marketing within the organization, working in partnership with various cross-functional partners to create compelling and inspiring experiences for our guests. The Editor will own the brand’s voice and evolve Tommy Bahama’s lifestyle proposition through its product and its promise: Live The Island Life. The role will lead the copy team and will drive editorial strategies and standards to inform their work. The candidate is responsible for continuously delivering relevant, compelling and proactive guest messages while helping define the brand voice and developing and maintaining 365 Brand Voice guidelines.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
• Honing and implementing the Brand’s tone of voice across all communication touch points, elevating and evolving when and where necessary to adapt to an ever-changing landscape.
• This role will act as the Lead writer to define brand voice & messaging standards, devise story ideas in partnership with Omni merchants and marketing strategy, lead product knowledge within messaging, and lead/inspire the copy team.
• Working with marketing leads to use data to adapt copy direction to suit individual markets/geos.
• Developing innovative ideas, objectives and strategies for brand messaging.
• Oversee team of Tommy Bahama copy writers and regular review of copy processes to ensure all copy deadlines are met in a timely and efficient manner.
• Establish the editorial value of reporting for the team -- in order to deliver expertise to our guest we have to go to the source and work closely with our stylists and designers
• Inspire team by being a source of culturally connected wisdom, regularly surveying publications and bringing inspiration to the table, from emails to site experiences to print experiences.
• Managing relationships and working collaboratively with key copy contacts within the business and licensee ecosystem to guarantee the needs of each department are being met.
• Management & on boarding of freelance copywriters during high volume time periods.
• Exemplify leadership qualities -- inspiring and engaging others through articulation of clear vision, coaching for scalability, proactively presenting recommendations and solutions back to leadership, owning the role.
• Create, oversee, maintain, and coordinate execution of company-wide content blueprint in partnership with marketing, design, ecommerce, retail, and wholesale
• Work closely with operations to ensure that storytelling and messaging are consistent across every touch point.
• Continually innovate new story ideas.
• Possess a nimble manner and positive, proactive attitude.
• Maintain strong and consistent relationships with design, styling, and marketing.
• Direct and own copy and storytelling and ensure consistency across all guest touch points -- catalog, blog, website, store signage, social media, mobile, and beyond.
• Work on the front end with marketing, design, and merchant partners to define and strategize key stories for seasonal guest-facing communication to create curated editorial content strategies, based on the editorial content calendar, that optimize trends and build consumer interests and engagement.
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
• Bachelors’ degree preferred.
• 8+ years’ editorial experience in either in-house apparel or similar agency experience.
• Experience in apparel/fashion preferred.
• Big-brand experience preferred.
• Impeccable attention to detail required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must have an aptitude for quick, creative thinking and decision-making with acute attention to detail within demanding deadlines.
• Must be excited about managing, mentoring and developing the creative team.
• Must have in-depth experience in digital brand development.
• Must have a very high taste-level and ability to elevate the brand by collaborating with relevant partners to gain a clear understand of the needs and expectations of the brand.
• The ability to multitask in a VERY fast paced environment and remain a consistent and positive leader.
• The ability to lead a dynamic and fast-growing creative team.
• A strong ability and desire to collaborate with senior management and the entire creative team.
