Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Fabric Research and Development Specialist
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Fabric Research and Development Specialist supports the Fabric Manager in research and/or developing seasonal fabric for Guess while adhering to textile performance standards, production schedules as well as business plans established.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support the research and/or development of seasonal fabric with key mills offering price value qualities. Assist in the development of fabric supporting the latest trends while adhering to textile standards at an affordable price point. Assist in driving creative solutions to price challenges. Partner with textile technologist and/or mill to understand technical issues/limitation of the raw material while working with suppliers to resolve/improve. Fabric R&D Specialist will manage a fabric category from beginning development through Final Hand Off.
Partner with Product Development and Production teams to build and maintain a mill vendor matrix that meets the required sourcing strategy. Order prototype and salesman sample(sms) yardage on seasonal basis. Update Enovia with all fabric specifications. Establish and maintain seasonal fabric charts, seasonal core and fashion boards for high level meeting, and the seasonal research fabric library.
Setting up fabric mills in the system (work with IT team send contact list to add mills/contacts to Enovia). Adding new fabrics in Enovia at the beginning of each season, or when new fabric is approved. Approve fabrics in Enovia when buying/PD team request approval. Update Enovia records/provide fabric info Fabric Specification Sheet (FSS) to garment vendors. Run reports in Enovia (export fabric booking chart from Enovia, style grids, check to make sure FSS details are entered, if not "submit to supplier"). Opening packages/sending packages, printing mailing labels. Setting up SMS booking charts/entering and calculating SMS ydg based on estimated yields, sending to garment vendors for booking. Updating fabric lists. Drafting/sending millsheets/developments (attending millsheet pass off), requesting labdips.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 2-4 Years
