Director Retail Innovation
Become the Newest Member of the Vans Family
As the Director of Retail Innovation, you will develop and execute projects that evolve our brick and mortar store business practices to meet ever-changing consumer demands within the physical retail space. You will play a critical role in the development of our long-term strategic planning to evolve and elevate our consumer experience. A passion for innovation, elevated storytelling, the consumer, and the future of retail will be critical to success in this position. You are experienced in project management, capable of bringing together cross-functional teams to influence change and ensure work stream alignment. Your strong communication skills allow you to keep key stakeholders informed, while balancing multiple overlapping projects.
You will report to the Vice President of Direct to Consumer, and will serve as a key leader within our Vans Direct to Consumer team. With a strong point of view, you will develop strategic relationships within Vans to influence the future of Retail. You will also be a partner for Regional Vans DTC teams around the globe, sharing learnings and knowledge to spark change.
How You Will Make a Difference:
• Develop a multi-year strategic plan utilizing our elevated retail platforms (the Retail Lab, multi-store formats, experiential stores, etc.) identifying critical initiatives, dependencies, and required investment. Create a concise articulation of our strategy that can be shared throughout the organization to drive shared perspective and focus.
• Utilize storytelling to drive emotional connections for our consumers and bring that to life in an elevated and innovative way.
• Create a platform for cross-team collaboration, leading sound project management on innovative solutions you seek to implement. Ensures projects are held to the highest standard, meeting deadline and budget requirements.
• Lead assessments on new innovative concepts, including competitive and industry research, partnering with Merchandising, Consumer Insights, DTC Technology, and Finance to analyze consumer trends and build financial business cases.
• Lead cross-functional teams to scope, design, and implement successful, on-time innovation pilots. Design new processes and practices to drive scalable innovation and long-term profitable growth.
• Create and deliver Executive-level presentations summarizing plans and progress in order to educate and influence cross-functional leaders to incorporate new ideas into their strategic planning.
• Develop a point of view on key consumer experience industry trends (in-store and online) and regularly share this information back to stakeholders throughout the company.
• Serve as a thought partner and liaison with VF DTC business partners, proactively sharing best practices across brands.
Skills for Success:
Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+ years
Educational/ Position Requirements:
• A Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred, and a minimum of 10 years general management experience in the Retail field or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Deep experience managing multiple business priorities and executive stakeholders in an ambiguous and rapidly growing organizational setting.
• Future-thinker with an ongoing commitment to education and information gathering to stay on the forefront of the evolution of Retail.
• Skilled educator able to synthesize learnings from external and internal sources to inform other leaders and catalyze new action.
• Committed to developing strategic relationships cross-functionally to grow influence and knowledge-sharing within Vans and VF.
• A proven ability to build strategic partnerships, as well as the ability to create alternative approaches that increase the company’s ROI
• A deep passion for and understanding of how to problem solve in a systematic manner through careful planning, execution and analysis.
• Experience in leading multiple competing projects at once, and coordinating cross-functional partners to meet deadlines.
• Exceptional analytical skills and ability to draw conclusions from complex business problems.
• Knowledge of retail systems and processes.
• Strong business sense and ability to create strategic and actionable presentations that is tailored to the appropriate audience.
Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:
• Long hours sitting/staring at a computer monitor
• Ability to be flexible in working late evenings/early mornings, when needed to meet project deadlines
• Some travel necessary (approximately 20%)
• Bend, lift, open and move product and related office items varying in weight from 1 to 25lbs, depending on need
