Position Overview
The Director of Operations is responsible for guiding and developing teams by motivating, mentoring, and coaching. They are responsible for engaging their teams across shifts to maintain the highest levels of safety, production, cost and quality while maintaining a positive employee experience. The Director of operations is a servant leader; dive in, roll up your sleeves to help in any situation, make tools available, remove obstacles for associates to excel in their roles, have empathy and compassion for associates, and the passion and leadership to stand up for them when the time arises.
Responsibilities
• Maintain strong working knowledge of all processes and policies
• Actively lead with safety, production, cost and quality at the forefront of all decision making
◦ Establish and meet KPIs
◦ Build strong teams and create programs/plans to improve all metrics across departments
• Lead, mentor, train and develop a team of Senior Managers through clear and effective communication
• Create a positive team dynamic that encourages all employees in the DFC to provide feedback, drive change within the facility, adapt to the ever-changing business, and stay focused on the customer experience
• Develop and administer operational procedures, precisely executing activities for shipments, handling and disposition of products, and keeping the highest standards of inventory accuracy
• Responsible for achieving all operational goals for area of responsibility
• Drive strategic labor planning and forecasting for area of responsibility ensuring alignment to variable cost plans
• Develop and share best practices across departments, divisions and networks
• Manage and maintain an operating budget and hit cost reduction goals
• Utilize the site Warehouse Management System (WMS) to optimize perfect order fulfillment and provide operational insights to improve WMS effectiveness
• Ownership and accountability for team’s daily decision making and execution
• Be patient, have strong communication skills and the capability to coach and develop leaders (eg. daily real time feedback)
• Improve (and/or create), document and implement procedures to help develop teams
• Communicate across all levels of the operation
• Actively seek, design, implement and monitor continuous improvement processes for the organization
• Develop, lead and direct change
• Be the first point of escalation for Senior Managers
• Be comfortable speaking in front of groups of all sizes including executive leadership
• Develop a culture of safety by leading, maintaining and enforcing safety guidelines, cleanliness and security standards
Qualifications
• B.A. degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain or related field; MBA is a plus
• 8 to 12 years of related experience working in a retail management, warehouse, fulfillment center or quality assurance capacity
• 7 to 10 years of experience leading and developing people and teams
• Experience with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
• Leader of leaders
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills (eg. Excel, PowerPoint), as well as the ability to operate warehouse tools (eg. scanner, ladder, warehouse software)
• Ability to quickly recognize, diagnose and solve for challenges and workflow for teams and leadership
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Forward-thinkers, with keen analytic skills and the ability to articulate point of view, develop systems/plans, and improve processes across the organization
• Ability to establish effective relationships across the organization and partner to navigate complex situations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence leaders and effectively negotiate with internal and external business partners
• Experience managing budgets with the ability to evaluate financial and business indicators and translate data into actionable information to drive results
• Have a positive, “can-do” attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
• Must operate with a sense of urgency and have attention to detail

• Ability to lift up to a maximum of 50 lbs based on needs of the role
• Ability to work flex shifts, hours, nights and weekends as business dictates
