Overview
The goal of this Planning function is to set up all relevant processes and drive the business (Revenue, EBIT) through strategic merchandise planning, controlled inventory management, actionable reporting and insightful commercial analysis. We achieve this by creating a world class, digitally enabled integrated end to end planning team, which is commercial, connects well cross functionally and delivers efficient merchandise processes.
Director Allocation will be in a strategic, tactical and operational leadership role, with a focus on the day-to-day management of the allocation/distribution of merchandise from the HUB to stores. The Director will work in very close partnership with Regional Directors/GMs, Planning, Merchandising, VM, Store Operations and Logistic teams to determine and create inventory strategies & targets and influence merchandise flow needs that support the financial objectives of each classification of product in the business between mainline, ecommerce, wholesale and outlets.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the development and maintenance of North America (Retail Stores, Online and Outlet) allocation strategies and targets for both Retail Stores and Digital, with a focus on timely and accurate deliveries that support the company’s financial targets and inventory turns.
• Ensure the organization supports the focus on flagship markets and LFCs (local fulfilment centers)
• Fully align, partner and cooperate with Merchandising, Allocation, Visual merchandising, Regional Directors/GMs, Stores, Finance and Logistic.
• Ensure a balance between mainline, outlets, and digital – protect each channel and ensure the right focus on each
• Improve alignment between wholesale Planning and Customer Operations in the up-stream allocation of inventory
• Provide visibility through standard and ad-hoc reporting on a daily, weekly, monthly basis
• Serve as a key leader of Planning function to drive and deliver sustainable, profitable growth for the region
• Implement size profiles by country/store cluster to maximize Sales, Gross Margin and inventory turns.
• Set strategic direction to affect size imbalance per store while protecting and driving business.
• Influence seasonal buying decisions based on out of stock performance, Make recommendations to the Planning and Buying teams on product receipt needs to ensure that sales are maximized in all store locations
• Communicate Allocation strategy for New Floor Sets (size, options) and ensure all monthly floor sets are delivered within set parameters i.e. receipt by the first week of each month, communicate any delivery issues which may affect this plan back to Buying and Planning
• Establish ideal and max inventory levels by store in units and option, which ties to the Visual Plan.
• Improve consolidation process and collaborate with Merchants to utilize Visual Plans for Option targets.
• Communicate and align on Par Levels with regional directors and District managers for Fashion and 365 product.
• Implement Flow Forecast and communicate impact to cross-functional business partners for each new floor set and consolidation process. Work with the Supply Chain to prioritize and manage inventory into and through the HUB and work with them to troubleshoot any issues and meet fashion trend needs that arise on a day-to-day basis. Responsible for managing the flow of merchandise from the distribution center to the stores.
• Coordinate a team of four; develop and drive proper structure and processes to maximize team productivity and results;
• Ensure all team members have the right goals, and coach and develop the skills of all team members
• Drive financial results that maximize revenue, gross margin, inventory turn goals and minimize excess inventory.
• Consistently track and improve process design, rigor and discipline around planning and inventory buying, as well as inventory management and tracking
• Improve and implement reporting and analysis capabilities to drive decision making at the regional and global level.
• Standardized analysis and reporting all business units to provide consolidated and consistent view of regional performance.
People Management
• Create opportunities for key talent in allocation and establish and environment that fosters collaboration to create a first in class allocation team.
• Elevate the allocation team – operational & talent and set up skill set to own size profiling and replenishment planning. Manage and develop a team of Allocators and participate in the broader cross-functional Planning and Allocation management team
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree,
• 10+ years prior experience in retail planning & allocation
• Vertical retail experience
• Strong leadership skills, executive presence and acumen
• Strong analytical skills paired with strategic business acumen and application
• Detail-oriented, results-driven, highly, motivated, and entrepreneurial. Ability to act as both a “player” and a “coach”
• Ability to negotiate with and influence peers, members of a cross-functional team and senior management.
• Ability to formally present business strategies and action plans.
