General Summary:The Director of Transportation and Logistics is an individual with a strong level of strategic vision and expertise in domestic and some international freight. Will have a skillset in multimode logistic strategy, network design, and ongoing performance all while driving excellence within transportation for multisite distribution and fulfillment operations. Will develop key strategic initiatives and deliverables for transportation in support of the DSW business.
Reports to: VP, Transportation and Logistics
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
• Lead a high performing team to drive cost reduction, service enhancements, and compliance in our domestic and parcel transportation teams.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to develop new strategic solutions to improve the consumer experience and provide more choices and conveniences related to delivery for our distribution and fulfillment operations, including pick up locations, select delivery date, etc.
• Responsible for a $125+ million transportation budget with millions of transactions.
• Lead the development and achievement of comprehensive transportation RFP, enhanced supply chain visibility dashboards, establishing an inbound and outbound transportation program and development of a Transportation System (TMS) roadmap.
• Create and execute strategies to improve business process productivity and reduce freight costs while improving service.
• Manage North American associated transportation target levels and reduction goals.
• Develop and utilize robust KPIs and drive supplier development related to delivery performance within transportation network and make improvements on vendor/supplier delivery performance.
• Identify and implement logistic processes and network changes impacting overall transportation services including but not limited to shipment consolidation, store delivery and direct to consumer, etc.
• Benchmark and utilize 3rd party tools and systems to drive world-class logistics management processes.
• Collaborates with key business partners, including but not limited to Merchants, MP&A, Store Operations, Distribution and Fulfillment operations, to streamline processes and implement optimized transportation network to align with distribution and fulfillment footprint changes.
Requirements
• Ability to build strong relationships with carriers through the full procurement lifecycle, and influence in a collaborative manner while ensuring implementation of world-class processes.
• Must understand multisite commerce and direct to consumer transportation (D2C) systems
• Experience with pool distribution to retail stores and network design
• 10 to 12 years of hands on experience in leadership managing a transportation team of 10 plus
• 8 years of experience within multisite transportation and supply chain activities.
• Understanding of retail and commerce business and/or experience running transportation network for innovative multisite national company.
• Strategic development of transportation solutions working with high volume and small parcel packages.
• Expertise in negotiating carrier contracts working with TL, LTL, Intermodal, USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL, and other carriers.
• Adept at working with a vision of tools and techniques to optimize a complex supply chain/logistic network for domestic and global freight
• Ability to communicate and plan effectively with cross-functional business leaders and service providers, while employing strong strategic business skills.
• Thorough knowledge of systems and computer operations; exposure to TMS/YMS and WMS helpful.
• Travel could be up to 15%
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or Logistics.
