Job Description:
The Vice President of Operations plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities and effective functions of Distribution, Inventory Control, and Customer Service. S/he must be extremely motivated to elevate the operations of the organization within Distribution and Fulfillment in a way that can be duplicated across the corporation. This person will oversee the individuals who manage a large multi-channel distribution center, focused on the daily activities necessary to achieve the service levels around safety, quality, turn time, and costs. They must be a strong operational partner with other operationally significant functions of the organization including; Sourcing, Supply Chain, Retail Operations, Sales, Finance, and IT. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, energetic leader capable of driving operational efficiencies and process improvements throughout the organization.
Duties:
• Develop, implement and report on key operational and performance metrics, including labor efficiency, material efficiency, customer service metrics (e.g. order entry efficiency), on-time delivery, order fulfillment metrics, chargebacks, and returns.
• Establish best practices while driving profitability through KPIs.
• Develops and manages departmental spending needs for long-term plans, yearly budgets and monthly forecasts.
• Develop and implement improved processes to drive efficiency, speed and effectiveness throughout the organization. Partner cross-functionally to ensure alignment and success of new processes
• Regularly reports on progress and performance metrics as well as gains executive alignment on key decisions.
• Develops specific short-term and long-term plans, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates.
• Coordinates and collaborates with other departments in establishing and carrying out responsibilities and driving the Company’s strategies forward.
• Develops plans for new areas of technology that will improve the Company’s Distribution and Fulfillment practices and align with the Company’s strategic plan.
• Research, design and implement innovative processes and procedures that will foster improvement of the logistics operation and service, both domestically and internationally.
• Strives to constantly improve distribution efficiencies, on-time shipping results and accuracy of shipping as well as improve distribution CPU.
• Establishes ways to improve order fulfillment, productivity, quality, and efficiencies.
• Directs, monitors, and appraises the performance of department leaders for Distribution, customer service, and inventory control and other departments as assigned, and provides the necessary coordination between activities.
• Enhance the development of the DC management infrastructure.
• Maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility.
• Strong functional partner to supply chain driving process improvements and efficiencies in time, cost and quality.
• Consults with all segments of management responsible for policy or action. Ensures compliance within area of responsibility.
• Makes recommendations for improving effectiveness of policies and procedures.
• Identifies, develops plans and drives efficiencies throughout the organization. Efficiencies to include process clarity, cost savings, time savings, etc.
• Assumes other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Skills/Qualifications:
• A minimum of five – seven (5-7) years as Distribution senior leader, with the responsibilities of inventory control, distribution, and customer service.
• Experience with developing a 3-5 year operational plan to parallel company growth plan
• Has excelled in guiding a culture to a Best in Class environment through best practices, process improvement, and KPIs.
• Ability to see the overall business environment, to organize and assimilate data/information, to prepare contingency plans and future strategies, to be proactive, and to initiate continuous improvement projects.
• Excellent project management skills
• Strong analytical, numerical, and reasoning abilities.
• Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to address all levels of the organization.
• Ability to establish credibility and be decisive to support the organization's preferences and priorities.
• Results oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations
• Experience with automated manufacturing and supply chain systems (MRP/ERP); experience with Microsoft Dynamix AX a plus.
