Senior Designer, Textile Apparel
Purpose (Brief summary of why role exists): Design innovating executions of Apparel Material Surfaces
Key Accountabilities (List the 5-10 major areas of responsibility for role):
CREATIVE DIRECTION
Continuously aware of information needed to design performance, lifestyle and brand relevant product.
Trade fairs, cultural events, and sporting events, consumer insights
Trade publications, trend services, fashion and sportswear magazines and websites
Store checks, market visits, and team travel as provided
Industry news in Material innovation and manufacturing
Contributes to Performance BU Apparel Design in seasonal and long-term design direction focusing on Apparel Material Surfaces
Contributes to apparel design direction by:
Contribute in trend forecasting content relevant to our consumer and brand
Contribute in providing technical advanced Material surface ideation and concepts functional insights and a strong aesthetic eye
Works closely with various internal and external partners:
Collaboration and critiquing within Performance BU Apparel Design, Creative Direction’s Color, Material, and Graphics teams
Collaboration and clear communication required with suppliers and development
Collaboration and information sharing with BU Apparel Designers
Acts as a conduit to all Apparel Designers, Marketing, Product Managers, CTC within the Business Units
Works closely with Development to assist in development of process, manufacturing, and costing
Assists in communicating inspiration and storytelling to Design and Marketing
Works closely with Testing to ensure quality
MATERIAL EXECUTION
Designs, innovates and develops Apparel Material Surfaces with input from Apparel Design, Creative Direction, Marketing, and Development:
Seasonal prep and research stated above
Design technical and innovative material surfaces with attention to look, feel, and function
Create material surface innovations with consideration of sustainability and efficiencies
Assists in creating design presentations
Exploratory process to reach final solution
Creates Material drawings and tech packs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Computer Skills:
Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
Apple Mac Operating system
3D not required, but beneficial
Ability to understand design concepts and think conceptually
Ability to create designs that innovate function for the consumers needs
Ability to operate in a fast pace, ever changing work environment
Works well in a team environment. This position requires employee to engage with many stakeholders, as well as manage various information and relationships
Ability and desire to push themselves, others, and the brand forward
Ability to influence and collaborate with key internal and external business partners
Understanding of brand history and current positioning
Understanding of the inline creation process
Understanding of marketplace (footwear and apparel) in all formats (streetwear/fashion) for our consumer
Desire to comprehensively understand technical facets of material.
Qualifications (Minimum required education and experience):
8+ years of footwear design experience
Bachelors degree in product, industrial, automotive or interior design
