POSITION SUMMARY:
Pratt Institute seeks its next Director of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Program (HEOP). We are committed to developing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive community, and to shaping an environment for teaching, learning, research, creative and professional work that advances this vision.
With substantial support from the New York State Department of Education, Pratt’s HEOP program makes attending Pratt possible for New York State students whose economic and academic circumstances would otherwise preclude this path.
With the aim of recruiting, supporting and helping to ensure the overall success of the program’s students, Pratt’s HEOP Director develops, implements and manages an over-arching plan for the HEOP program. The Director supervises a small staff, and reports to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Developing and implementing an overall plan for the program in light of NY State Department of Education program guidelines and Pratt Institute’s priorities.
• Working with the Director of Government Relations to prepare proposals for NY State funding of the program and to report on the program to NY State.
• Serving as Pratt’s contact with the state-wide HEOP program, and representing Pratt at HEOP meetings outside Pratt as necessary.
• Building relationships with offices across campus whose work is necessarily connected to that of the HEOP program, and coordinating program services with those offices, including: admissions, student financial services, advisement, academic departments, Student Affairs, and the Office of Career and Professional Development.
• Working with the Admissions office to recruit students.
• Developing and overseeing program policies, budget, workflow, and programming throughout the year, including but not limited to:
◦ Ensuring the development of program policies that serve students and align with those of the Institute
◦ Preparing, monitoring and reporting on NY State and Institute budgets;
◦ Developing and maintaining counseling and tutorial programs for all students, and maintaining both program and student records of this work;
◦ Structuring and overseeing the summer curriculum, ensuring that it is well aligned with Pratt’s curriculum and regularly updated;
◦ Hiring appropriate academic instructors for the summer program
• Hiring, supervising, evaluating and helping to ensure the professional development of program staff, and of student employees as needed.
• Representing Pratt’s HEOP program to external and internal audiences.
• Other tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:Master’s degree in a relevant field (ie. counseling, education, or related area), doctorate preferred.
Experience:Three or more years’ related professional experience in a higher education environment and in a higher education opportunity (or similar) program.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in higher education that are relevant to the development of Pratt’s HEOP program.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, and with students who come to higher education from disadvantaged contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to develop academic and other programs for this student population.
• Administrative and supervisory experience.
• Experience with grant proposal development and grant management.
• Experience developing and managing budgets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work easily and effectively with staff and faculty colleagues across the Institute.
TO APPLY:Please submit your current cv or resume. A cover letter that addresses your interest in the position. A statement describing how you have worked to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in your current position or at your current institution, and how you plan on continuing to do so here at Pratt.
