POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Alumni Relations (AR) facilitates lifelong relations with and between friends, parents, faculty, staff and students. Charged with both building community and fostering a culture of engagement the AR office is committed to intentional and focused engagement to achieve shared goals. The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations oversees two alumni chapters, all aspects of Alumni Day, RRK and other campus events, following industry best practices to ensure that Pratt Institute properly engages its alumni in support of its initiatives and development efforts. This position reports into the Executive Director of Alumni Relations. Work is performed independently and requires the employee to be able to schedule, supervise and set priorities and performance based upon completion of assignments and results obtained.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead initiatives and activities related to Alumni Day, including goal & budget setting and monitoring. Identify, recruit and engage volunteers to increase outreach.
• Manage two alumni networks, establishing annual plans, goals and budgets. Manage and empower network leaders to grow their networks through peer-to-peer cultivation, engagement and stewardship.
• Articulate strategies that identify, recruit, train, steward, manage and evaluate alumni volunteers.
• Engage Pratt alumni through various events and programs established in collaboration with network leadership.
• Strategically plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules and timelines.
• Collaborate with development team to identify alumni for further cultivation, aligning stewardship and outreach strategies.
• Forge strong relationships with campus partners to maximize alumni engagement opportunities and outreach. Maintain strong communication links to ensure a coordinated approach to alumni and to avoid scheduling conflicts.
• Produce contact reports, and deliver timely and effective follow-up to alumni leaders and prospects.
• Support campus-wide events such as Commencement and other alumni and student engagement opportunities.
• This position may require periodic evening and weekend work.
• Perform all other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:A minimum of four years of experience in alumni relations, institutional advancement, volunteer management, chapter program administration, special events or related transferable experience required.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Must have solid understanding of engagement strategies especially as it relates to alumni relations.
• Demonstrated experience conducting individual visits for volunteer recruitment, training and stewardship.
• Experience developing and executing innovative engagement strategies and events that optimize the engagement value and improve local and regional engagement with alumni and students.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Raiser’s Edge or similar database system required.
• Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills also essential.
• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
• Strong independent judgment and decision-making skills.
• Comfortable speaking in public and making presentations in meetings.
• Ability to correspond professionally with senior staff and high-level alumni
