Senior Manager NCAA
Purpose
To position adidas as the preferred athletic vendor in NCAA. Primary purpose will be to service all aspects of the athletic department by driving footwear, apparel, accessory, marketing & sales initiatives to NCAA schools in all major sports within a given territory. Sr. Manager role will be to instil the brand values and initiatives to field managers, schools, coaches & administrators while also acting as a brand ambassador within a given territory. The end result is not only to drive sales volume & maximize revenue but also provide excellent brand exposure & authenticity on athletes, coaches, athletic administrators and other University personnel. Secondarily, this position will act as the conduit between the athletic department and the adidas brand to maximize license retail commercialization. Lastly, they will manage a group of NCAA Team Services Reps within a region to effectively service our NCAA partners and develop sales programs to sell in new products and recruit future NCAA partners. This position will be a player/coach role where they will continue to service a small handful of schools while managing the people within their territory.
Key Accountabilities
• This is a player/coach role where this individual will service a handful of key accounts and then lead & manage a number of field managers with accounts/schools within a select territory.
• Responsible for driving & recruiting all new NCAA business (sales & promo) and service existing key partners to outfit and sell adidas products directly to the athletic department, establishing a one-stop shop for athletic departments and their equipment needs within territory.
• Service all sports/teams with their team apparel/embellished apparel, headwear, hardgoods, custom uniform and footwear needs. Help drive brand & USTS business initiatives while balancing sales & promo programs.
• Build equity for the brand & position yourself as the Brand Ambassador in the area and territory where it will be required to visit each campus at least once a year to ‘sell-in’ product lines, drive new sales & business opportunities.
• Create an ‘all in’ environment and engage athletic administrators, equipment staff and coaches to buy into the adidas product lines, marketing and key product innovations.
• Work with cross functional partners (marketing & comms, licensed, legal, product, merchandizing, sales ops, customer service, finance & sports marketing to ensure we position the business against the NCAA SBP.
• Build relationships, network and maintain regular & effective communication with institutions, equipment managers, athletes, coaches and athletic directors in the territory.
• Reach annual sales goals and manage promotional and T&E budgets.
• Communicate NCAA status to adidas team & retail reps to help foster/educate the US Team Sports authentication plan.
• Leverage on-site relationships to drive sales with outside of athletic department programs (ie. Alumni, Rec Sports, Office of the President) to outfit all departments with adidas products & services.
• Coordinate the licensed side of the athletic department fully activate the Brand at team.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Strong written, verbal, presentation and negotiation skills.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers.
• Ability to calculate and understand discounts, proportions, percentages and ratios.
• Solid understanding of the NCAA college environment with an understanding of the team dealer network and discount structure along with an understanding of the licensed retail environment.
• History of working/selling custom uniforms, footwear, headwear, team apparel, hardgoods & equipment
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to work with Office of Procurement, legal teams and cross functional teams to renew existing team agreements and complete new business opportunities.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Ability to multi-task; must have strong time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Excellent customer services skills, with a passion for delivering high-quality, professional service through strong partnerships.
• Ability to successfully influence decisions and outcomes both internally and externally that support business decisions, while maintaining healthy, productive, successful relationships.
• Must have good phone skills and email etiquette.
• Technical proficiency with MS applications (Excel & Word) and PowerPoint
• The ability to travel frequently via car and occasionally via air
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and a minimum 7-10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. NCAA experience preferred, either coach or administrator
3. Merchandising and forecasting experience is preferred.
