The Marketing Category Manager will be responsible for strategic management of American Eagle’s total Marketing spend and for delivering services including but not limited to strategy development, strategic sourcing, market research and analysis, senior stakeholder management, supplier performance management, contract and commercial negotiation, and continuous cost/performance improvement. The Category Manager will develop solid, cross-functional working relationships and execute value driven projects in a timely manner. You will provide strategic thought leadership to advance the company and Marketing department’s business agenda and drive strategic business decisions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Overall responsibility for developing/communicating and implementing the procurement strategy of all Marketing spend categories
• Responsible for leading cross-functional teams in the sourcing of Marketing categories included but not limited to: Advertising/Media agencies, media buying, performance marketing, email and mobile marketing, direct mail and loyalty, gift cards, social media, sponsorships, brand building, signage, market research, public relations, etc.
• Identify, create and implement initiatives to maximize value and ensure ongoing management of supplier contracts and relationships
• Serve as go-to partner and strategic thought leader for all spend initiatives and supplier engagements with key stakeholders, by influencing their way of thinking while remaining sensitive to stakeholder challenges and requirements
• Meet established savings targets and directly impact profit improvement initiatives and company P&L
• Lead identification, sourcing, and implementation of new technologies into the marketing department to support overarching goals, adapting to the quickly developing technology market
• Build and establish solid relationships at all levels in the organization and with key senior stakeholders, including the Chief Marketing Officer, multiple Marketing Vice Presidents, the Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis and other senior business leaders
• Prepare complex Requests For Proposal, as well as associated deep financial analysis, commodity benchmarks, trend analysis, and presentation of formal recommendations to senior executives
• Negotiate appropriate supplier agreements with Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Service Level Agreements (SLA), and Continuous Improvement efficiencies
• Analyze market research for potential demand aggregation – supplier consolidation, contract renegotiation, price reductions or cost avoidance
• Additional responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred
• At least 5-7 years or more collective years of procurement/sourcing experience with at least 2 years’ experience in Marketing Category Management/Strategic Sourcing with broad awareness of standards, trends, service performance indicators, financial metrics, etc. in this area
• Strong negotiation skills and experience
• Ability to operate independently and efficiently in a very fast-paced, deadline-oriented, retail environment
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze data, understand trends and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis
• Agility and flexibility to adapt to ever changing requirements
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), and planning skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team
• Ability to lead teams in decision making processes and influence others at all level of the company
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
• Able to travel up to 10-15% of the time for business purposes if required
• Experience working with procurement application software such as, Ariba, Coupa, etc. and ERP systems such as Lawson, Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft, or a similar ERP system
• High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook, and Internet applications
