The Public Relations Program Manager is a member of the Orvis Public Relations and Social Media Team and is responsible for implementing and executing communication programs to promote the organization, its products, brand and executives. Company Interfaces:
Reports to the Public Relations and Social Media Manager in Sunderland, Vermont. Interfaces internally with the VP of Brand Marketing, Board Members and C-Suite Executives, VP & Director level business leads (as “clients”), fellow marketing department associates, and associates in departments throughout the company. Works externally as required with PR agency, marketing vendors, and conservation partners. Will require written and verbal correspondence with customers from time to time. This is an individual contributor, exempt position.
Key Performance Measurements:
Financial KPM. Brand Awareness. Facilitate and manage communications with PR Agency and media to increase media exposure of the Orvis brand in alignment with annual year-over-year KPM projections and/or strategic initiatives.
General Responsibilities:
• Act as media contact for The Orvis Company, implementing proactive and reactive media relations efforts including identifying key opportunities and fostering strategic relationships.
• Facilitate incoming media requests in coordination with PR Agency by providing images, samples, arrange interviews etc.
• Prioritize focus for the key brand storytelling initiatives with which to reach media exposure and brand awareness. Drive storytelling requirements internally in collaboration with Creative, Marketing and Content development teams.
• Manage day-to-day performance vs. expectations, and communications with PR Agency to facilitate publicity projects and achieve KPM goals.
• Oversee maintenance of an online pressroom/media hub in partnership with PR Agency
• PR execution, including: Attend and/or provide support for media / PR events as needed.
• Compile reporting for PR metrics, working with PR Agency to monitor progress against PR KPM’s. Notify internal stakeholders and associates at large of media hits.
• Responsible for compiling critical information with regard to distributing press releases, fact sheets, talking points, Q&As, FAQs, internal articles, briefing materials in partnership with PR Agency.
• Increase the visibility of our company's experts, products and services by facilitating speaking and interview opportunities
• Coordinate Orvis Commitment store displays and other collateral requirements with advertising/production and retail management.
• Assist with development and coordination of corporate marketing special projects, and manage select projects from time to time as assigned.
• Schedule meetings and resources for branding/corporate marketing projects, conservation committee meetings, advertising and e-commerce job requests, and travel logistics as necessary.
Qualifications Required:
• A college degree preferably in Communications, Marketing or PR/Journalism
• 3+ years work experience in a public relations, communications, or marketing role.
• Experience and knowledge of the outdoor / retail industry desired
• Experience/interest/passion for conservation a big plus
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Strong organizational skills and sense of urgency, with strict attention to deadlines
• A positive and friendly attitude and the ability to interact with a variety of personalities to form strong, reliable business relationships
• Competence in PC computer skills including MSOffice Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop a plus
• Social media and relationship-building savvy
