GENERAL FUNCTION
As Director of Finance (Underwriting) in the organization, you are the primary owner of underwriting and pricing activity for an EyeMed business segment, owning the Underwriting role in the strategic approach to new business acquisition and retention of current clients. Assesses the impact to organizational objectives, ensuring all financial commitments are met. The Director of Finance (Underwriting) is instrumental in problem-solving on related topics between Underwriting, Provider, Sales, Product Management and other operational areas. Participates and manages the development and implementation of new products and other key corporate initiatives that support the overall growth strategy. The Director of Finance (Underwriting) must be familiar with and serves as liaison with contracted vendors’ and clients’ Underwriting and Actuarial departments.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leads analysis, pricing, and economic modeling for Managed Vision Care lines of business – including routine, medical eye, government (Medicare/Medicaid)
• Monitors and assesses competitors' rates, benefits, and financial arrangements.
• Assists in the design, pricing and implementation of new products.
• Leads key projects and partners with functional leaders across the organization.
• Manages daily workflow and prioritization within a unit and ensures timely release of work.
• Provide expert knowledge to ensure compliance with all state insurance laws and regulations.
• Provides direction and support for significant strategic product development activities.
• Coordinate with relevant teams to develop, implement, evaluate and communicate training material, as well as provide internal and/or external training as appropriate to effectively convey product features and benefits
• Leads the Underwriting role in Sales and Account Management activities including participation in client/broker/partner meetings and negotiations.
• Understands pricing components and rating methodology as well as use of the predictive modeling tools; prices risk based on financial and competitive analysis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• BS/BA, BBA in Economics, Finance, statistics, or related field
• 10+ years’ experience in insurance, financial services, or data analytics role
• Analytical skills, including statistics experience/training
• Attention to detail
• Good judgment in financial decision making
• Negotiation and interpersonal skills
• Problem-solving ability
• Verbal and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• MS/MA, MBA in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field
• 10+ years’ experience in insurance, financial services, or data analytics role
• Experience in negotiating deals/contracts
• Understanding of predictive models
• Deep understanding of economics and of the legislation relating to insurance or financial services
• High level of computer literacy, as specialized software is used
