External Job Description
The CAD Designer is responsible to direct, build and develop production ready print, pattern and embellishment artwork for both woven and knits business categories.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Ability to create original artwork through mixed media, paintings, graphic design and CAD that are exclusive to Lane Bryant.
• Work with the Textile Design Manager and Trend Director on seasonal print trend direction.
• Research artwork trend direction through magazines, online services, blogs, etc.
• Strong ability to mix hand drawing skills & computer skills to create compelling production-ready prints
• Have a strong understanding of different computer techniques to execute creative vision.
• Re-color original artwork to fit into seasonal color palettes.
• Re-design and adjust original artwork to create well balanced designs.
• Develop and merchandise completed artwork for seasonal concepts to present to the design team and merchants in order to assist them in understanding global print direction.
• Understand, embrace and execute Brand direction as set by SVP, Trend Director and Design.
• Knowledge of customer needs/wants as well as current and emerging trends with the ability to translate it into brand right product balancing core and fashion
• Match seasonal color palettes within CAD system for a true representation of color used for presentations, color cards and artwork.
• Basic knowledge of garment construction
• Knowledge of customer needs/wants as well as current and emerging trends with the ability to translate it into brand right product balancing core and fashion
• Maintain an in-house library of all CAD generated artwork.
• Review and comment on strike offs for print execution
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple seasons within your categories
• Execute timelines on Vertical Development Calendar.
• Know the expectations and processes involved for key presentations and deadlines and manage time effectively.
• Takes initiative with the “big picture” and how the total look applies across classifications; aware of what is going on in other areas and how all areas relate to your own business.
Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Art & Design or related field
Experience:
• 5-7 years’ experience in CAD related work; apparel experience is preferred.
Skills:
• Computer skills a must – Kaleido Print/Knit/Weave, U4ia and/or Ned Graphics, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
• Excellent managerial, organization and leadership skills
• Excellent verbal and visual communication skills
• Ability to establish and maintain strong cross functional partnerships at all levels within the business.
