POSITION SUMMARY
As the leader of JanSport’s Merchandising team, this position partners with Operations, Sales, Finance and the global RDD team to lead the development and direction of seasonal product initiatives and assortments that meet financial targets, quality metrics and deliver on strategic intent. With a lead by example mentality, you will oversee and inspire the Merchandisers to build segmented assortments that drive growth across channels and establish best practices aligned with our brand’s strategic choices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the activation of JanSport’s seasonal merchandising strategies aligned with long term plans, revenue and margin targets and brand goals.
• Amplify seasonal Big Ideas commanding 70% of the activation.
• Manage thoughtful placement of our Icons and Franchise.
• Drive assortment to our financial goals.
• Ensure thoughtful segmentation and placement of our ideas across the distribution landscape (DTC and Wholesale).
• Lead the preparation of seasonal and regional merchandizing strategies, supporting product creation and providing input from DTC (performance, test, and learn), Market Research (competitor’s analysis, feedback on trends), Sales and key account performance and feedback, distribution opportunities (identifying white space).
• Partner with Demand Planning, building seasonal forecasts connected to merchandising strategies and financial goals.
• Uphold a leadership role in sales meetings, key account product meetings and trade shows.
• Dedicate time and attention to management and development of direct reports.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• 8+ years of experience in branded merchandise/development, retail buying or product design/development; experience in Outdoor Industry, equipment/apparel/footwear a plus.
• 5+ years team management experience.
• International experience a plus.
• Bachelor of Arts: Merchandising, Product Management, Business preferred.
• Experience in managing/developing a team or individual towards growth potential.
• Strong understanding of global markets, including regional differences and across diverse channels of distribution.
• Experience in product forecasting, statistical modeling, and/or strategic planning.
• Strong working knowledge of consumer product merchandising design and/or sales.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation and influence skills.
• Ability to successfully collaborate as part of a cross-functional team, building consensus and achieving results across a variety of distinct groups.
• Ability to play an integral leadership role within the broader organization, connecting department and individual expectations to the company vision.
• Confidence and presence to lead a diverse team.
• Proven ability to select and develop talent.
• Strategic leadership with proven ability to successfully grow businesses.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
