Urban Outfitters, Inc. (NASDAQ: URBN, www.urbn.com) is an innovative specialty retailer, offering lifestyle merchandise to highly defined customer niches through brands including Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain, and BHLDN. Urban Outfitters, Inc. is both a Fortune 1000 and S&P 500 ranked company with $3.3 Billion in revenues.
The URBN Strategy & Corporate Development team supports strategic growth within each of URBN’s brands and across the enterprise. The team is functionally accountable for strategic planning and corporate development/M&A, working in partnership with the Financial Planning & Analysis team. The Senior Analyst, Corporate Development will be expected to drive URBN’s growth strategies by identifying and evaluating opportunities to drive growth through both acquisition/investment opportunities and growth strategies within the current enterprise framework.
Our team works to support the Executive Director of Corporate Finance & Corporate Development and the executive suite across three main areas: (1) URBN-wide strategic projects and strategic planning (2) Brand-specific strategic projects, and (3) M&A or investment opportunities. The workload shifts frequently across these focus areas based on enterprise goals and brand needs. Flexibility, perseverance, and comfort with ambiguity are therefore requirements for success in this role.
Responsibilities
• Work directly with senior executive leadership to develop and execute both global long-term growth strategy and short-term project-based work
• Own the development of all materials for the Board of Directors, including partnering with CEO and CFO on development of long-term strategic vision. Work with brand leadership and executive leadership to build strategic plans at the URBN level, as well as on specific brand-level initiatives.
• Identify and evaluate M&A and new business development opportunities by providing rigorous fact-based analysis, performing due-diligence on potential acquisition targets, and synthesizing insights into actionable strategic recommendations
• Serve as advisor to senior leadership, providing insight, analysis, and feedback on ideas, business, and other business-critical initiatives
• Identify and evaluate strategic growth initiatives which span across URBN brands
• Work with brand leadership to support individual growth opportunities specific to each brand
• Serve as strategic lead on International Expansion Project, supporting the deal process:
◦ Evaluating markets for opportunity
◦ Identifying potential entry strategies and partners
◦ Financial analysis and modeling of opportunities
◦ Negotiations and deal support, working across finance, accounting, tax, legal, operations and the brands to develop terms
◦ Initial launch support and development/management of process to hand-off to the organization
• Accountable for support of the entire business development process
◦ Collaborate with senior leadership and external sources to identify potential acquisition candidates which support the broader organizational goals.

• Industry experience in retail, consumer products, apparel or other consumer-focused industries
• Experience (and passion for) managing a team
• Experience and comfort working with C-level executives and managing diverse and conflicting interests across a complex enterprise; strong collaborator and partner with ability to build trust via hard work and empathy
• Strong negotiation skills; experience in deal work a plus.
• Excellent researching, problem-solving and analytical skills
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be personable yet persistent, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate personal integrity. Must demonstrate sound business judgment and emotional intelligence.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage an ever-changing slate of projects, priorities and executive-level stakeholders.
• Strong modeling and presentation skills, with an ability to adjust style for different audiences
• Self-starter who is resilient and comfortable with both ambiguity and low traditional “success” rates – it is the nature of strategy that only a small portion of projects worked on will be implemented. The right candidate must thrive on that iteration and not be discouraged by rejection.
• Sense of humility and willingness to not “get credit” for organizational successes; this role is about helping others succeed and dealing with very thorny and complex problems, and therefore does not come with constant appreciation.
