Major Responsibilities
The Assistant Buyer is a motivated individual that will participate in vendor selections, and partnerships. They will assist with merchandise transfers, and ensure the resolution of data integrity. The Assistant Buyer will Assist in providing information for the monitoring of inventory productivity, and the analysis of vendor profitability while providing data and analysis for price changes, and assists in entering prices changes on line.
Role responsibilities include:
1. · Help create a line, collaboratively with the buyer and Fashion Office, which fits the brand profile, is consistent with market trends, is on point with business strategy and meets financial targets.
• Organize and manage Seasonal Concept and Brainstorm meetings between DMM, Fashion office and merchant.
• Schedule market appointments and style outs.
• Attend market and trade shows with merchant to identify styles and assortments appropriate for the collection.
• Partner with planning to develop pre-season buy and sku plan.
• Write buys for approved styles and track purchase order progress.
• Negotiate cost pricing to maintain planned markup and to price the goods competitively at retail.
• Maintain assortment presentation by month to be presented to management.
• Collect and return samples for style out.
• Shop competition to stay on top of trends, brands, pricing, presentations, concepts that are compelling and could help the collection stay fresh and new.
• Offer up ideas to continue to differentiate and add excitement to the customer experience.
• Chase new product and present injection/opportunity buys to merchants in season.

Professional Qualifications
• Sense of urgency, flexibility, ability to multi-task.
• Strong knowledge of and ability to apply retail math concepts, including elements of markup, margin planning, open to buy, and inventory productivity measures (WOS, T/O, GMROI).
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent computer skills including MS Word and Excel.
• 1 - 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Buyer, preferably in a major department store.
Educational Credentials
University or College degree or commensurate retail experience.
