Coordinator of Recreation/Head Coach (Men’s & Women’s Cross Country/Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, with some latitude for independent judgment the coordinator of recreation assists with all ARC wellness and recreation programs, represents the department to all individuals who utilize the ARC facility, and shares responsibility for the supervision of all of the activities that occur in the facility. The Head Coach is responsible for the organization and administration of all aspects of the sport coached with significant responsibilities in areas including staff supervision, teaching and implementing skills and strategy, recruiting, budget development, and implementation of NCAA, conference and institutional policy and regulations. The Athletics and Recreation Department is committed to providing a wide range of activities and services that assist Pratt students in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
COORDINATOR FOR ATHLETICS AND RECREATION DUTIES
• Initiates, coordinates and supervises Athletic and Recreation Wellness Programming.
• Develops and implements student leadership programs for athletes, student boards and student employees.
• Assisting the associate director with effectively and actively promoting and marketing all recreation and wellness initiatives.
• Directing Intramurals and recreation program board (students).
• Assists with the hiring and recruitment of fitness instructors.
• Providing onsite supervision for special events.
• Providing management and supervision of home athletic contests.
• Participates in strategic planning and assessment of ARC goals and objectives.
• Collaborates with assistant director to provide training for student employees.
• Assists with the production of the PrattFit promotion newsletter.
• Collaborates with Health and Counseling offices on wellness programming.
• Assist with maintaining and expediting alumni and community membership procedures (i.e., input member information to generate Pratt I.D. Card, generate receipts for collection of membership and locker fees, maintain membership and fee related records, etc.).
• Provides advising for recreation related student clubs.
• All other duties as required.
HEAD COACH DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Direct the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs by coordinating and completing the following: recruitment and retention of student-athletes, practice sessions, contest preparation, contest management and administrative duties.
• Recruit and retain student athletes that can meet Pratt’s academic admission standards and sustain or enhance the competitiveness of the program.
• Work to support the academic success of student-athletes and to monitor their academic performance.
• Submit and manage team roster in accordance with Department of Athletics and Recreation regulations.
• Collaborate with athletic training staff for documentation and appropriate care of injuries.
• Keep abreast of the NCAA, conference and departmental rules and regulations and attend required department meetings.
• Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Conference, American Collegiate Athletic Association and Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
• Develop specific duties for the assistant coach that aid in the overall success of the program, ensure that they adhere to their established performance program and evaluate their performance at the conclusion of the season or year.
• Complete administrative duties within deadlines established by the Director of Athletics and Recreation, including pre-trip and post-trip meal, hotel and transportation arrangements and receipting for both team and recruitment travel, monthly assessment data.
• Submit an annual budget within deadline established by the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
• Inventory equipment at the end of the season and include in the budget all equipment requests, including those necessary to ensure student-athlete safety.
• Maintain applicable health and safety certifications (i.e. CPR, AED, first aid).
• Participate in continuing education through professional development opportunities.
• Other responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:Bachelor’s (master’s preferred) in Recreation, Sports Management or related field.
Experience:Degree in a field related to: recreation, physical education, or sports management preferred. Working knowledge of computers, including word processing, database software, and campus recreation related software. Facility and employee management experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong communication and management skills.
Must demonstrate inter-cultural competence and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
