Overview
The Director of Category Management Watches is responsible for all product management for the category. S/he will lead a team of merchants to manage assortment planning, pricing and margin, as well as new product planning. This individual will drive alignment of strategic and operational objectives and their communication through appropriate departments.
Responsibilities
The Director, Category Management, Watches will have assortment analysis and lifecycle management responsibilities that include performing high-level assortment analysis and provide recommendations for assortment changes to maximize sales and productivity. Directing staff in managing accurate day to day item maintenance, re-classes and merges with all appropriate processes and applications. Manage communication flow with cross-functional counterparts. S/he will propose, implement and monitor baseline worldwide assortments and partner with Global Merchandising Operations (GMO) in the development of regional assortments. The director will partner cross-functionally to ensure the appropriate ratio of assortment count to sku productivity. S/he will lead team assortment reviews on a quarterly basis. Provide strategic direction for T-Flags, E-Flags and Obsolescence management. Direct and implement margin reviews and pricing structure strategies to ensure margin requirements are met. Update retail prices as needed to meet margin goals. Develop presentations that communicate and present a high level view of departmental strategies and new product introductions as needed and support vice president with senior management reporting and communication.
New product development responsibilities include creating scope and direction for new projects and propose new product suggestions to the vice president to drive category growth. Analyzing trend and key initiative reports, engage in regular competitive review, and make proposals for assortment additions or changes. Manage cross-functional team and project through phases of development. Establish, monitor, and meet project milestones and develop project plan and work breakdown based on shifting priorities. S/he will manage communication flow of new product and assortment lifecycle planning information with cross-functional counterparts. This individual will direct reviews of new product architectures and partner to achieve assortment productivity objectives and staff in managing accurate project maintenance with all appropriate processes and applications.
This individual will coordinate a cross-functional team consisting of members from Design, Watch Center, Demand Management, Quality Management and others, if applicable. S/he will lead the team/project through the phases of product development, identify and assess project risks, establish project milestones; develop project plan and work breakdown. The Director will also identify and initiate resource tradeoffs in the interest of project efficiency and meeting committed launch date. S/he will coordinate product approval documentation, meet company expectations and team commitments for Product Launch, establish and communicate product specifications as well as manage unit costs, estimates, cost changes, & final costs for development projects. The Director will plan and monitor project budget for tooling, modeling, and other development costs as well as associated administrative expenses. S/he will manage new samples, borrowed merchandise, and unmounted stones.
The Director will build strong cross-functional relationships to address market trends and needs. S/he will partner with Watch Center and GMO to execute product launches, manage store assortment and space planning, Direct Marketing, Marketing, and PR initiatives. This individual will present product area information to retail management to highlight key strategies and initiatives as well as contribute to product communications as needed including monthly memo and new product videos.
This individual will also develop management and professional staff to be effective, self-started, and result-driven. S/he will drive alignment of strategic and operational objectives and their communication through appropriate departments as well as encourage groups to be full partners with their colleagues throughout the organization. The director will support the VP with the execution of departmental and cross-function initiatives and ensure staff integration of new processes and applications.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate will have 8+ years merchandising experience with expertise in luxury watches. S/he will have an overall knowledge/experience of retail business practices, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) with adaptability to new software, strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically – then implement steps to achieve goals. The director must have excellent leadership, organizational, communication and written skills, ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, strong interpersonal skills and diplomatic. S/he must have strong negotiating skills and demonstrated ability to lead and develop staff. Undergraduate degree from an accredited University. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of Tiffany & Co. product offerings, preferably with some store line experience, knowledge of gross margin and turn calculations and working knowledge of merchandising software.
