Director Transportation (DTC)
This position will be located in Wilkes-Barre, PA at the DTC Distribution Center
Purpose:
The Director Transportation: DTC is responsible for designing, implementing and managing retail / Ecom Transport and Last Mile Deliver model. Manage the team responsible for executing US domestic inbound and outbound deliveries of adidas product to brick and mortar stores, and ecommerce customers. Ensure an industry leading, sophisticated, highly analytical parcel and transport model is introduced for adidas Retail & ecommerce. Oversee the development of processes, analytical tools, and relationships that ensure adidas product is accelerated to customers after distribution, at industry leading service levels. Responsible for Retail & ecommerce transport planning, performance measurement and analysis, introducing and delivering speed delivery initiatives, execution and leading the overall relationship with Parcel / Transport / Pool service provider network. Must be both a leader and a team player. Have a passion for retail and the adidas brand
Key Responsibilities:
• All operational and commercial aspects from the port of entry through the outbound delivery processes covering adidas Retail and eCommerce businesses, working closely with distribution operations, retail executive leadership, stores and service providers to enable a connected supply chain delivery model across functions. This leadership role also defines, implements and manages processes to ensure cost, service levels and performance targets are consistently met
• Defines and implements business rules and SOPs for inbound and outbound transportation for the adidas brands.
• Develop transport solutions and enhancement of best practices.
• Leads quality business review process with carriers and service providers. This process drives carrier selection and performance. A focus on continuous process improvement is mandatory.
• Oversees the commercial relationship with Group carriers and service providers. Assists the global tendering process with Ocean and Air Freight carriers.
• Negotiates freight rates, detention and demurrage, container free-time, etc. to achieve and maintain financial stability for the organization.
• Defines and implements reduced lead-time programs; targeting On-Time Deliveries, hitting Must Arrive Dates, and supporting last mile initiatives
• Manages inland dray carriers to ensure deliveries are made accurately to adidas standards and costs are minimized.
• Ensures inbound deliveries are made to our DC to achieve financial targets for the organization. Effectively communicate to Finance expected delivery schedule and potential impacts to targets.
• Implements and oversees effective processes for data management for all inbound deliveries to adidas’ DC.
• Manages and develops subordinates to ensure effective execution of both inbound and outbound deliveries for all brands to the adidas DC.
• Manages subordinates to ensure consistent achievement of designated KPIs and OTIF measurements.
Key Relationships:
• Internally: adidas Retail and eCommerce Operations teams, Distribution Center Management, Purchasing, Customer Service, Customs and Finance
• Externally: Ocean carriers, Air Freight Forwarders, 3PL’s, Drayage Carriers, Parcel and LTL providers
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Highly analytical, have proven transport industry success and influence
2. Very strong communication skills - verbal, written, presentation.
3. Proven experience developing and manage TMS / Transport visibility systems.
4. 10+ Experience leading Transport in the retail sector.
5. Proven successful tool kit / and process for best in class performance measurement-metrics and reporting
6. Influencer; able to drive change and innovation across leadership levels and SC functions.
7. Proven success working with retail store operations across US delivery regions
8. Strong understanding and experience leading parcel delivery on pool delivery models
9. Strong experience, connections and influence in the US domestic Transport carrier industry.
10. Proven success and experience leading contract management, cost negotiation, transport network analytics and service provider bidding.
11. Full knowledge of International Shipping industry for ocean and air freight.
12. Expert knowledge of US Intermodal networks
13. Expert knowledge covering outbound domestic transport for processes.
14. Strong people management skills
15. Sound knowledge of the US distribution industry and an expert on transport operations
16. Strong problem solving skills and strong SAP/GT Nexus/PC user skills
Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
1. 4 year college degree; MBA preferred.
2. Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in the supply chain or logistics industry
3. Ecom, Retail and Analytics experience required
