Merchandise Manager - Cacique
External Job Description
The Merchandise Manager is responsible for creating and leading the execution of the merchandise strategy for a subset of the brand in the long and short term. Strategy is created by using the inputs of brand positioning, customer insights, competitive and market intelligence, and trend. Collaborates cross-functionally to bring product to market. Owns maximizing business and minimizing risk in season.
Assortment Development:
• Develop 3-5 year product strategies that meet brand growth initiatives and financial targets thru key vertical milestone meetings.
• Responsible for creating and delivering a balanced assortment that meets customer needs and financial targets
• Creates, develops and maintains product pipeline that supports test and launch strategies
• Develop seasonal assortment strategy with design and planning
• Partner with Planning and Allocation on seasonal buy strategy
Business Management:
• Upholds the PLC process and Calendar and ensures all assortment planning tools are used by the merchant team
• Initiates development through vertical calendar process and supports merchant team to ensure strategy is being executed
• Leads merchant team to quickly identify and maximize in-season opportunities and mitigate risks.
• Partners with planning during the MPC process to ensure total department is in line with company strategy
• Responsible for on time receipts of core and fashion product
• Collaborates with Production team on vendor resources, calendar, and costing strategies
• Responsible for the development and growth of merchant team in order to build bench strength for future team growth
• Follows merchant/business recommendations swiftly and with sense of ownership
Cross Functional Support of Product Execution:
• Partner with Visual on floor set placement of product to insure that all styles are represented and volume and fashion projection objectives are met
• Partner with marketing on strategies that support the key initiatives including product introductions
• Collaborate with Planning partners on vendor projections to ensure accurate forecasts by style are captured
Business Operations:
• Clearly communicate strategy, execution needs, and regular business critical updates to ensure timely implementation
• Supports merchant priorities ensure current processes maintain efficiencies for cross-functional teams, eliminating duplicative work streams, and increasing overall productivity within the work place
Competitive Intelligence:
• Patterns competitors and fashion leaders to understand how they are projecting their brand. Focuses on overall assortment, fashion offering, pricing/promotional cadence, and presentations. Reports on and uses findings/information in season and future line planning
• Studies market share data to inform strategies
Customer Insights:
• Provide the voice of the customer
• Research and anticipate what the customer wants next and why
• Gather information from working with customers in stores, trend information and historical knowledge
Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising, retail management or business related field preferred
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a merchandising related position for a fashion retailer
Skills:
• Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point, and Outlook
• Demonstrated success in driving positive and sustainable business results
• Ability and agility to influence critical decisions
• Proven track record of recruiting and retaining talent
• Acute attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and manage priorities
• Must have a sense of urgency and personal accountability
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills
• Ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships
