Head of Design – Men’s Apparel & Accessories: Become the Newest Member of the Vans Family
As the Head of Design for Men’s Apparel & Accessories, you will set the overall seasonal direction and color palette for the Men’s Core line, as well as oversee the global seasonal design calendar. You will demonstrate your visionary ability to keep the brand moving forward by providing inspiration, as well as direction, to the Men’s Core Design Team. Your passion, experience, product knowledge and skills will support and leverage the company's continual quest to innovate and elevate.
How You Will Make a Difference:
• Sets overall direction in the conceptual development of product lines.
• Fully responsible for managing staff in all aspects of entire product design process to include market research, inspiration board creation, designing, sketching, tech pack creation, and fit.
• Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates design staff.
• Responsible for managing and providing creative direction to design staff.
• Fully responsible for ensuring that product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy; interprets international/domestic concepts and fashion trends as it relates to market demands, company image and business strategy.
• Oversees selection of fabric and trim. Responsible for knowledge of cost components and ability to design products that hit margin targets. Fully responsible for identifying and executing opportunities for process improvement through subordinate staff members.
• Provides overall recommendations and sets tone regarding style and fit of product(s) during presentation.
• Ensures consistency of look between differing businesses (e.g., knits/sweaters/wovens/denim) by working closely with team.
• Ensure Brand is protected while moving forward. Ensure global direction is communicated through active sharing amongst the regions Responsible for presentation of designs at line reviews
• Promote cross functional work to ensure consistency of Brand message is enhanced and protected. (M&D; Marketing; Sales)
• Responsible for strategic direction of the brand through full integration of Product and Marketing. Adhere to all calendar date
Skills for Success:
Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+ years
Educational/ Position Requirements:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field and a minimum of 5 years general management experience in the Design field or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Experience working in the Apparel industry
Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:
• Travel by air and overnight, as required 20% amount of time.
• Lifting and/or bending 25 amount of weight.
