Associate Buyer, Hosiery Job

The Associate Buyer is responsible for achieving assigned goals and objectives including gross margin, sales and total inventory turn. Selects and purchases merchandise including type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix and promotion for assigned merchandise category. Creates and implements plans to maximize gross profit by coordinating sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, cost of promotion and markdowns for assigned categories managed. Selects and evaluates vendors and negotiates product cost. Reports to Buyer. No Direct reports.
Must possess the ability to:
Merchandising
• Achieves gross margin, sales and total inventory turn objectives for assigned DSW category
• In partnership with Buyer, selects and purchases merchandise including type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix and promotion for assigned merchandise category
• In partnership with Buyer, creates and implements plans to maximize gross profit by coordinating sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, cost of promotion and markdowns for assigned category
• In partnership with Buyer, recommends and directs the development and implementation of category merchandise strategy and tactical plans, partners with Advertising/Marketing to maximize merchandising opportunities and recommends programs/plans to supervisor for implementation
• With supervisor’s input and sign-off, selects and evaluates vendors and negotiates product cost
• Develops and communicates effective merchandising programs at store level
• Ensures store merchandising standards in close partnership with the store operations management team, this includes store displays and visual merchandising
• Ensures beneficial vendor alliances
• Identifies new business opportunities consistent with DSW business short and long-term strategies
• Manages and maximizes category product mix, gross margin, promotional expenditures and markdowns
Merchandise Control
• Maintains effective category merchandise control systems including replenishment, open-to-buy, seasonal, etc. Works closely with the following functional partners to achieve business and organization objectives:
• Distribution and Transportation
• Human Resources
• Store Operations
• Information Technology
• Advertising/Marketing
• Accounting
• Works closely with the Planning & Allocation teams to ensure that assigned category merchandise forecasting is in line with business plans
• Ensures the timely flow and presentation of merchandise to store locations through close coordination with store operations and distribution/transportation logistics
Qualifications:
• 5-7 years merchant experience
• Fashion sense, appropriate product taste level
• High degree of analytical and negotiating skills
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Solid coaching/mentoring skills
• Customer, market understanding & retail math
• B.S. Degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing or Business preferred
