SET THE COURSE
To design in the creation of print and pattern, to support an apparel line that is attractive to the Tommy Bahama customer, and to work with a team of designers and other staff to ensure the quality of the products is world-class.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
• Researches seasonal trends, art direction, and new techniques in print and embellishment, and influences yarn dye patterns.
• Collaborates with VP of Swim, Active and Color & VP of Women’s Sportswear on art selection and concept development.
• Creates seasonal embellishment concepts and works strategically to develop concepts cost effectively.
• Proposes textile design needs and concepts such as engineered layouts, in collaboration with Designers.
• Manages art development timeline; develops art and embellishment in time for designers to utilize and execute, minimizing costing challenges and communication delays.
• Works directly with the art department providing art direction as aligned with VP’s of Design.
• Owns pitching color in prints for all of Sportswear: creating harmonious print coloration, palette grading, and pattern layout.
• Maintains consistent art standards and brand handwriting
• Partners with Sourcing/TBGs to insure the art is developed to factory/mill limitations and ability.
• Establishes standards and guidelines for the art development and approval process managing overdevelopment & workload.
• Works closely with TBGS & India partners to clearly communicate development technique and needs, provide expectations and calendar deliverables.
• Manages all final art packages and send out.
• Collaborates with designers in sportswear, the art department, sourcing, TBGS, and other vendors outside of TBGS.
• Distributes final art and embellishment to accessories team, and to licensees to align brand identity and consistency.
• Provides direction and feedback on initial strikeoffs; communicates with the design team on any art and embellishment challenges after submits.
• Addresses art needs outside of seasonal development; post milestones, and special requests from channel or wholesale accounts (Disney).
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
• Bachelor’s Degree – Art, Design
• 4-6 years of experience
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to be flexible, nimble, collaborative and diplomatic
• Sophisticated taste level
• Excellent sense of color
• Strong ability to build upon creative vision and execute art direction.
• Computer graphics experience with knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator helpful
• Experience with the apparel design process from concept to product.
• Ability to follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong time management skills.
• Understanding of Tommy Bahama customers. Ability to creatively design for this market.
• Organization skills. Ability to work under tight timelines while managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to observe, learn, and incorporate new ideas quickly.
