Free People Public Relations Manager
Overview
The Public Relations Manager is responsible for creating, managing and supporting external communications for the Free People brand. The Public Relations Manager will manage the PR Assistant and will oversee all PR related activities with the goal of ensuring the maximum amount of on brand media exposure. The PR Manager should have strong relationships with media outlets, creating the opportunity to represent the brand lifestyle by increasing brand awareness. Must be able to identify and connect key fashion influencers that represent and support the brand by creating on brand messages that will positively impact Free People. The Public Relations Manager will create and execute a comprehensive and thoughtful PR strategy to drive business goals.
Responsibilities
• Create PR strategy for the brand for both long lead and short lead press
• Secure media coverage and product placement in brand appropriate newspapers, magazines, broadcast, and blog outlets.
• Oversee incoming media requests, product loans, and image requests for approved media outlets.
• Manage processes relating to Free People sample loaning, completion of flat shots of product, and manage the database of incoming/outgoing samples.
• Create all Free People press releases for product launches, store openings, noteworthy news, etc.
• Manage and plan the distribution of all Free People media pitches.
• Plan all media for store opening events and media relations for retail openings.
• Develop and foster outstanding relationships with regional press, editorial assistants, and bloggers.
• Track and communicate PR results and media clips to Marketing Manager on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
• Manage contact database and press monitoring system daily.
• Work closely with teams across the organization including buyers, ecommerce, marketing, design, creative and retail teams on various projects.
• Identify and react quickly to negative press. Alert the Merchandise and Executive team. Apply strategic thinking for next steps for the brand.
• Manage internal PR expectations around product launches and seek out press worthy product and stories.
• Identify press worthy stories around product launches, collaborations, or trends.
• Create and distribute monthly PR brand recap.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of Public Relations/Marketing experience
• Comfort and experience working directly with media
• Ability to identify story angles and trends and articulate to appropriate media
• Very strong presentation and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing to meet deadlines.
• General knowledge of media landscape and demonstrated relationships with media/journalists. Desire to grow and adjust/enhance those relationships over time
• Understanding of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Snapchat and other popular or emerging sites
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Experience using Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with PR platforms & media database contact software
• Passionate about fashion, media, and the Free People lifestyle
• Team player and Collaborator. Excellent communication skills.
