Responsibilities
We have an exciting opportunity to join the outlet design team to conceptualize, create, develop and engineer product designs specializing in ready-to-wear. The ideal candidate is a highly creative individual who welcomes the opportunity to work on a highly collaborative team and embrace change as the brand grows and develops.
Essential duties and responsibilities to include:
• The Designer owns the entire design process for outlet exclusive ready-to-wear styles, from initial inspiration to final prototype, and is fully responsible for the entire product life-cycle including market trend research, inspiration, hand sketching, computer flat sketching, garment specifications, fit, and ensuring that product is designed to meet target customer's fit criteria
• create and execute on the vision of the creative director, ensuring that the product is consistent with market trends in ready-to-wear, while maintaining the brand identity and overall outlet business strategy.
• provide direction for fabric, and trim direction selection for outlet exclusive ready-to-wear styles
• responsible for generating tech packs for carryover mainline ready-to-wear styles in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system
• must have strong knowledge and understanding of the kate spade product and client, with a keen ability to make decisions and implement strategy based on new information and evolving trends.
• build relationships with the mainline ready-to-wear team and keep informed on mainline concept, styling and direction
• work closely with other members of the outlet design and merchandising team to ensure a cohesive product line is realized.
• build strong relationships with the merchandising team to define seasonal framework and ensure that creative ideas and business goals are aligned
• partner with the graphic design team to develop or engineer artwork for cut and sew knits, appropriate for seasonal themes led by merchandising
• partner with the product development team to establish a full working knowledge of mainline and outlet woven and knit raw materials specific to ready-to-wear product; partner with production in achieving desired outcome.
• possess strong knowledge of garment construction and lead fit sessions to help solve all problems that may occur during proto sample and market stage; responsible for final approval of sample fit to ensure production-ready market samples
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or related field required.
• 4-7 years related design experience across multiple brands.
• In depth understanding of kate spade brand and ability to translate it into commercial product
• Thorough knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, construction techniques, and trim.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
• Adheres to time-lines and provides solutions in a timely manner
• Ability to design around concept direction
