Human Resources Director - Improvements
Business Unit Summary
Cornerstone Brands is comprised of interactive, aspirational home and apparel lifestyle brands including Frontgate, Ballard Designs, Garnet Hill, Grandin Road, and Improvements. This Human Resources Director is the strategic HR partner to the President and business unit leaders across Improvements.
The Human Resources Director provides guidance and coaching to leaders in building and developing their organizations in support of company initiatives. Through strategic leadership, this role is responsible for working with leaders to create and integrate talent management initiatives in order to grow talent and deliver business performance. This individual is responsible for overseeing and actively leading the company’s talent acquisition strategy and execution, in order to keep pace with the growing needs of the business.
This role has brand liaison responsibilities to represent the needs of Improvements to the Cornerstone Brands Centers of Excellence. This Director maintains effective relationships to ensure communication of information and business needs are met. The role also has responsibility for the day to day operations of the Improvements office to ensure a safe, professional and well maintained environment exists.
A Day in the Life
• Partners strategically with Brand President and business leaders to accurately assess and plan business and talent priorities.
• Develops and leads strategies to create a strong positive organizational culture and positive relationships between leaders and team members to support engagement, retention and high performance of our team members.
• Ties performance management closely with talent planning and career development to create a holistic approach to improve team member and company performance.
• Consults on organizational design and ensures that roles are clearly scoped and accurately situated within the overall organizational structure.
• Serves as a valued partner within the HR team and leverages key relationships within the Cornerstone HR Community, as well as HSN, including: Talent Development, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards and Legal teams.
• Oversees transactional HR functions, serving as a thought partner to internal partners and business leaders.
• Maintains current knowledge and understanding of regulations, laws, industry trends and developments regarding HR that may affect the business and advises management and team members accordingly.
• Provides solid guidance in team member relations and compliance related issues and analyses trends in order to develop short term interventions and long term solutions as needed.
• Anticipates future needs and demonstrates the ability to lead change in a creative and effective manner.
• Acts as a liaison and leader for Customer Care and Fulfillment groups to ensure Brand expectations are met. Participates in regular touch bases to support an exceptional customer service experience; helps with escalated issues that require Brand input to ensure resolution is appropriate.
• Brand point of contact with corporate legal to ensure potential liability (customer/product) is responded to in a timely and efficient manner, collaborating with appropriate staff as needed.
• Leads facility operations for the Improvements office. Manages relationships with service vendors and ensures workplace is safe and in good order.

Must Haves
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.
• 7 or more years of professional experience in HR Generalist roles with prior experience leading teams.
• Proven track record of helping high-growth organizations scale and build talent.
• Ability to think strategically and build systems and processes for long-term success.
• Ability to analyze business trends and demonstrate functional knowledge of business metrics.
• Strong conflict resolution skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills suited for interactions with team members across all levels.
• Strong business partnership and influencing skills; able to establish credibility and rapport with operating leaders, as well as partner across lines of business and within a multi-disciplined HR and operations organization.
• Able to clearly and soundly articulate a point of view and garner support for ideas and initiatives.
• Strong project management skills to apply to HR and operational areas.
• Excellent analytic, problem solving and coaching skills.
• Ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Detail-oriented and organized, with excellent follow through skills.
• Well versed in HR best practices and trends in areas such as performance management and engagement.
(Candidates will be considered in totality of their skills and experience versus strict interpretation of “must haves.”)
Nice to Haves
• 3 or more years in a senior Human Resources leadership position.
• Strong foundation and experience in Talent Acquisition at all levels.
• Prior leadership in a retail environment is helpful.
