Director, Advanced Customer Analytics
Basic Function:
Responsible for customer, campaign, and marketing analysis, this strategic leader will generate and communicate insights to drive business growth opportunities and optimize marketing investments. This position will leverage our data as an asset to create competitive advantage, inclusive of customer whitespace opportunities, data-based personalization efforts, customer behavior modeling, and marketing mix optimization. This role will provide leadership for a superior team responsible for data management, mining, forecasting, modeling, and analytics that support the the company’s strategies, projects, and growth efforts. Reporting to the VP, CRM, Digital & Marketing Analytics, this position will be highly visible in the Marketing organization, with tremendous impact and influence throughout the organization.
Essential Functions:
• Drive and deliver data-driven insights related to increasing sales, margin, profit, and customer loyalty by exploring and mining data across multiple sources, including customer data mart, site & digital, and external
• Generate hypotheses & analytical/testing opportunities to provide unexpected insights through an understanding of broader business concepts, trends, and applications
• Define the data & analytics architecture and processes to support best practices and emerging technologies/trends, including capturing and organizing structured and unstructured data across various sources and analyzing it though in-depth statistical techniques to create best-in-class customer experiences and ingenious customer insights
• Lead efforts with IT and partners to ensure adequate investment in data, analysis, and modeling tools and capabilities to support analytics current needs and roadmap
• Lead testing and modeling efforts across print, email, digital, and site; partner with the APT testing team to lead marketing store testing
• Lead the work with the external agency/vendor for media mix and attribution modeling; attain deep understanding of media mix, attribution, ROAS modeling and impact on total business and category level, including customer shopping funnel analysis and impact of various marketing stimuli
• Provide insights and recommendations to optimize current marketing investments through DM and offer analysis, customer behavior modeling, and marketing mix modeling; lead efforts related to sales and margin impacts of marketing activities, including offer recommendations, projections, trends, opportunities/risks, post-event analysis, and recommendations based on analysis and business needs
• Leverage the database and site analytics to provide actionable insights related to customers, shopping behaviors, and the health of the customer file that influence business decisions
• Lead digital analytics to drive sales and profitability of our site and mobile channels; deliver actionable analysis and insights related to site performance to identify digital, customer, and operational opportunities, including integration with customer analtyics
• Present findings and actionable insights to leadership and business partners at all levels in the organization
Job Requirements:
Skills
• Proven proficiency in managing data, analysis, insights, and best practices from concept through implementation and optimizing thereafter
• Strong experience in data base applications, tools and usage, and best practices around data analytics
• Highly proficient in analytical thinking, problem solving, statistics, modeling, and data mining
• Ability to thrive in a highly quantitative, fast-paced environment with changing business needs
• Innovative thinker with ability to synthesize data and blend with intuition and experience
• High degree of initiative, personal responsibility and ownership
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills
• Superior process management skills with proven ability to identify and proactively solve problems
• High degree of analytical curiosity that leads to comprehensive data acquisition and analysis
• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously across the team while meeting deadlines; strong time management skills
• Ability to work in a multi-team environment, in which various business owners and partners require support
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at the leadership level and with cross-functional partners
• Exceptional eye for audit beyond just checking code, including understanding the business, data, and volumes/metrics to identify anomalies or errors
• Proficient in MS Excel (graphing, pivot tables, data manipulation, formulas, etc.)
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in business; Master’s degree a plus
Experience
• 7+ years of heavy analytical and database experience
• 5+ years of experience leading, managing, and developing internal talent
• Advanced proficiency with programming, advanced analytics tools, and statistical methods & modeling techniques to explore and mine complex data sets/structure, including both structured and unstructured data (SQL, SAS, Python, R, etc.)
• Statistical background, including deep understanding of marketing mix models, demand attribution, and testing approaches
• Retail experience strongly preferred
