Reporting Relationship:The Assistant, Product Development is a key role within Owned Brands reporting to the Director, Design, Men's Sportswear, Tailored.

Major Responsibilities:
The Assistant, Product Development will offer support to the Associate, Design, Men's Tailored, Dress Shirts, Furnishings in the successful execution of a brand design strategy. In this role, the core responsibilities are to offer assistance in delivering timely execution of key design milestones from concept through final buy meeting. The Assistant, Design also supports the collaboration with execution partners including sourcing, technical design, merchandising, planning, and buying. This role will support multiple brands, including Lord and Taylor, Saks Off Fifth, Hudson's Bay and Gilt private labels.
Role Responsibilities Include:
• Regularly correspond with Merchandising/Tech Design/Sourcing/Buying teams.
• Communicates design, material and details to the Technical team and vendors.
• Under the Design team’s direction, oversees the production process including approvals of style, material and color.
• Recording, understanding weekly sales reports.
• Research for new ideas and inspirational concepts that are relevant to multiple menswear brands.
• Review and comment on Lab Dips, Fabric, Art, and Trim submits.
• Assist in the analysis, follow up, and communication of the season brand strategy.
• Follow up of samples, trend boards, and communication between the vendors and the team.
Qualifications
• Minimum 4 Year Degree
• 1-3 years of product development experience preferred
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office required, especially in Excel and Powerpoint
• Knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop preferred
• Understanding of tailored and dress shirt garment fabrics and construction
• Understanding of product development and processes, as well as tailored and dress shirt garment fabrics and constructions.
• Ability to work with a multitude of vendors and express design needs with appropriate terminology
• Strong color sense
• Commitment to learning the development process as relates to overseas factories
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Excellent organizational skills, with strong time management and the ability to prioritize and multitask
• Professional demeanor and appearance
• Enthusiastic team player with excellent problem solving skills, good follow through and a sense of urgency
• Ideal candidate would be able to work in a professional fast paced environment and be able to deal with shifting priorities
